60. She is the model who marred that multi billionaire. She was a Playboy
centerfold I think. And she had the gig for Gap Genes. Recently she lost a lot of weight and was the spokesperson for Trim Spa. She appeared drugged out several times on TV and she had a reality show when she was heavy. I used to watch it and I grew to like her. It is so sad.

Oh she just had a baby and 2 days later her son died of an overdose. Now there is a paternity suit going on. A young guy says he is the father and she was just ordered to get a DNA test for the baby.

It's that whole damn "HUGH!!11!! SERIES!11!!!" thing.

Sorry. Pet peeve. People generally think they're funny when they say "hugh" or "series". Hence, it would seem that you thought that, if Anna Nichole was indeed dead, it would be funny.

Consider, if someone died in your family, would you want someone coming up to you and saying how hugh, or series, it was?

The death of a soldier in Iraq has warranted little more than a scroll at the bottom of a screen in most cases.

63. again: it has always been this way
The death of an individual soldier has never...never...taken priority over the death of a national entertainment celebrity. During the Vietnam War, Americans were dying at a greater rate than they are in Iraq, but the national news media virtually never covered an individual soldier's death. But when Judy Garland, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin died, those deaths were covered by the national news (albeit not to the extent that Smith's death will be covered in this era of 24 hour news channels).

122. IT will be all day coverage for Anna Nichole Smith......
Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 04:33 PM by FrenchieCat
One day I can take. Afterall, she was a blonde bombshell...which warrants much news as you may know.

But although I didn't admire in anyways, she was still a public figure, and many will be interested in this, because it is news that will sell. It's pretty sensational.

She lived by the media, and so it shall be that she will get more than her fair share of coverage upon her death.

That's the United States for you.

I still feel sorry for here. No one's death, especially one so young is good. It is always a sad thing, in particular to those she left behind.

She may become an Icon a la Monroe. This happens often to those who die a tragic death after having been in the media's eye as she was.

Plus, she won her legal case, and might have eventually gotten millions!

It's an American story. America will watch.

Google Anna Nicole. Google Dennis Kucinich. Compare the number of hits. Whether or not she "deserved" to be, she was a national celebrity. You can make up your own reality or you can live in the real world.

25. Rita Cosby just reported it. I had a feeling it was bad. They were
doing CPR and had her intubated when they took her out of there.

Now, the questions begin. Overdose, or murder?

And we know damned well it will be in no time at all that we are treated to the life story movie about this poor, tortured soul, for fun and profit.

And now, the Gloria Vanderbilt of the 21st Century, her little daughter, will be torn to bits with all the fighting going on over her. We know full well that since ANS is dead, like Ken Lay, her lawsuit worries go away. And that little kid is left sitting on a bundle of cash, which makes her a very popular little child, indeed.

Look at Sen. Johnson, who had that blood vessel defect in his brain for so many years and it wasn't a problem until it was. Stuff happens. Sorry to hear about Ms. Smith and I expect I'll be even sorrier to hear about it when the story is in its 5 millionth hour. Too bad this story will probably overrun the congressional hearings and the Libby trial.

134. Well, none of us know. But her problems with drugs are well-known.
And as to murder, there's that fellow who was contesting the paternity of the child, and the family of that rich guy she was married to briefly. And of course her husband would have to be put on a suspect list as well, because the police always ask "cui bono?" when a young lady dies. She has money in the bank, I'm sure, and her image is worth money, even after her death--and maybe even more so (her whole, sad life is movie-ripe).

Again, though, this is nothing but idle speculation. None of us know, and none of the talking heads on tv know, either. The doctors at the hospital and the EMTs and the bodyguards know more than we do. The medical examiner, when they do the autopsy, will know more still, eventually.

74. It could've been something else. There was one report of her having
flu-like symptoms the last several days.

And, I think she's had substance abuse problems as well, tho none of us know (yet) if that had anything to do with her death.

I used to absolutely despise her. But in the past several months, I've come to realize that she really is MOSTLY just a horribly tragic figure. Self, self-destructive, and yes, a victim. Today, in the interim between when it was first reported that she'd collapsed in the casino and the news of her death, as MSNBC has been showing all those different video clips of her, I couldn't shake the similarities with Marilyn Monroe. I went as far as to think to myself, this is this generation's MM.

RIP, poor young woman.

41. RIP Anna Nicole
And Don't Fear The Reaper...

How said. Money, fame, beauty... means nothing. It can't buy one more minute. Poor, dear thing.

To loose a child would do me in. That's all it would take.

I don't mean to sound flip, but she is the epitome of the old adage: Live hard, die young, and leave a good looking corpse.

jokes. These spellings were taken from the Free Republic (freeper) website over the years. They are an 'inside joke' and are used incessantly on DU.

Hugh = Huge sometimes followed by 11111 as in this is Hugh1111 - meaning really big

Series = Serious. As in I'm really series this time

Moran = moron as in he's such a moran!!!

Screwn = screwed as in we are so screwn1111

there are others - you'll see them. All came from 'real' postings at freeperville.

143. "Hugh", "Series", and 1 instead of ! are "Leet-speak"
It's hacker sarcasm toward their own version of Freepers.

But "Moran" is Freepish.

The Left even has a few of its/our own, like "Corproate", and abuse of the letter "k", as in "Amerika", "KKKorproate".

Some of the responses I have seen are disturbing and hateful. Post sympathy about her untimely death? You must have missed the fact that troops died yesterday?! What kind of bizarre thinking is that?

When ever a celebrity dies, it's news. When Pat Tillman died it was big news because he was a celebrity, as well as soldier. I don't recall every soldier's death getting that type of media attention. I also don't recall "hate" posts mocking his celebrity status. Of course, I could have missed those.

Her life has been like a slow motion car accident. I hope her daughter grows up away from the media spotlight.

To me, it is silly to say that people talking about this is denegrating to our soldiers dying in Iraq. It's still a tragedy, and whether you liked her or not, she was famous and young and that always gets press.

While she had an older step son who kept after her legally for years whom not a few DUers will suspect had her killed, the fact is that she subjected herself to lord knows what all chemicals and procedures in pursuit of an "attractive" body. Reports of drug use can't be far behind this tragedy. Plus her own son just died last year in Mexico in a drug-related scene. I wouldn't rule out a slow unintentional suicide here.

146. It is a very bizarre coincidence, isn't it?
Mother and son, 39 and 19, dying within months of each other.

149. Anna always had the vibes of a Marilyn Monroe character, she seemed very
fragile and vulnerable, a mass of insecurities and quite childlike really. I hope someone is watching over the baby girl and that she is taken care of away from what will be a public fiasco.

RIP Anna.
