Congratulations DU'rs
I nominate DU for the Phil Angelides Award for Democratic Destruction by Democrats. You are all doing a wonderful joc of squabbling and trashing each others candidate. The Republcans' job is is half done. they will be able to copy verbatim most of what is said here by all. What I see is a well of support for Dems with dozens of DU'rs taking a dump in that well. Now instead of1 year of Pukes bashing my party's candidates, we have a tag team/ relay trashing event. Meanwhile the Puke candidates skate free. DISGUSTING:mad: :grr: :banghead:  :hide:

23. Yeah... I completely disagree.
I don't know how you can miss all the threads mocking / documenting the crimes & issues with those sorry exuses for candidates.

I guess it's all about perspective, though.

5. Let's pick one candidate we can all back.
We'll decide which one by running a series of campaigns, debates and elections from each state. We could call it a primary! And then we can hold a big convention to announce the winner - then we have our one candidate we can all back. Let's call him/her the "nominee"

How does that sound?

Some Notes on Primary Season

1) Your favorite candidate is the only one who can win.

2) Your favorite candidate is the only one who will truly get behind a progressive agenda.

3) Other candidates are part of some nefarious conspiracy to destroy your candidate.

4) Supporters of other candidates are motivated by groupthink.

5) Supporters of other candidates are operating in bad faith and arguing dishonestly.

6) "Powerful" bloggers shouldn't be "biased."

7) Primary season is the silliest season of all.

15. so...what you are suggesting is...
...that we argue our choice based on their merits rather than by trashing/criticizing the ones we don't choose?

In America?...

:D

34. No...not stupid at all...
...but the concept of trashing opponents (and the search for a candidate is a contest) is deeply ingrained in American political discourse...since before we became a nation...

18. That's rather utopian, isn't it?
Would you be satisfied if every bit of trashing of a Democratic candidate were accompanied by some trashing of one or more Republicans? Think of it as a small tax (in effort, not money) to be paid by those who wish to trash a Democratic candidate.

Edited on Tue Aug-14-07 05:20 PM by Warpy
and that is different from trashing them, although their supporters generally fail to see the difference.

Once again, the Democratic Party isn't a party for the uncritical and those who want to think they're above criticism.

9. Isn't this squabbling the political process?
I think you might need to thicken that skin, Mitch. This is how it has always been done, warts and all.

Nobody likes to see "their" candidate denigrated or marginalized, but this is an ideas forum (ok, you're right, more often than not it's a quick zinger forum) where folks who are already comfortable with their choices can see how others think and feel.

Really, do you think it's any different over on the boards at Repug Underground.com?

I just think one can criticize without all the name calling and mean spiritedness. By the time this is over either you don't know what to believe, or you hate them all, generally the latter.

Tell me ... where does it work that way other than in some Kool-Aid cult? (No wonder they off themselves.)

I think trashing repubs is better and easier too, but sex threads aren't allowed. That really cuts down on the material one can post.

We at least discuss the pros and cons of candidates. Free speach and all that. I know, I know, really old fashioned of us, isn't it? But, I'll bet ya when the final votes are cast we will vote as a block to assure a democratic candidate.

37. When Democrats...
.... enable the suckass actions of Bush and his minions at every turn, who needs them.

Dems deserve the trashing they are getting, the Dem leadership in congress has led them to a NEW LOW RATING among the PUBLIC.

If you don't like the criticism they are getting here, tough fucking shit.
