Revolutionary alert to iconic types
By Aleksander Boyd
04.08.07 - So Santana thinks he looks the part with a Che Guevara t-shirt. Cameron Diaz took it further by walking around the Andes with a handbag with the image of a People’s Republic tormentor. And then the planet has to put up with the `social consciences´ of the Bonos and the Geldofs. With the `environmental concerns´ of the Coldplays and the Madonnas, troubled as they all are with substance excesses, with their hedonistic lifestyles in the much hated Western capitalist societies whose markets propelled them to iconic status. It must be a tough life being a Hollywood type nowadays. Just imagine the sort of pressure these entertainers must endure, sitting around all day trying to find worthy causes that will afford them a place in history, something that’ll make them stand out from the competition, that’ll save them from getting chucked to el basurero del olvido by the next generation. Life’s such a bitch for some… >>

Illiteracy in Venezuela: UNESCO denies Chavez's claims
By Aleksander Boyd
11.07.07 | Just then got a Google alert in my inbox about Venezuela's bogus claims on illiteracy. Chief of UNESCO's Press Relations Section Sue Williams got wind of a story printed by El Universal in which certain remarks were attributed to her. The source of such remarks is an email exchange that I had with her in July last year, in which she stated, very explicitly indeed, that UNESCO had not declared Venezuela as an illiteracy-free territory, as the caudillo and his minions keep deceivingly claiming. >>

State sponsored terrorism in Chavez´s Venezuela
By Aleksander Boyd
06.07.07 - Venezolana de Television, VTV or canal 8 as commonly known, is a Venezuelan TV station owned, controlled and operated by the Venezuelan state. Given that the Venezuelan state is no more, it could easily be argued that VTV is in fact but one of the many media outlets under Hugo Chavez´s boot. Beyond its inception’s goals and theoretical definitions of being a state funded, public network at the service of all Venezuelans, VTV has become a den of competing sycophants in a chronic and desperate attempt to outdo one another over who can stick its head deeper into the caudillo´s bowels. One of the leading figures is a man known as Mario Silva, who presents a programme called La Hojilla (razorblade). All manner of baseless, unsubstantiated accusations and propaganda of the crudest sort are the daily themes of the show in which revolutionary figures, such as Eva “la gringa” Golinger, are given exposure -at tax payers´ expense- to utter their nonsense. >>

An Open Letter to the Frontline Club re RCTV
By Aleksander Boyd
29.06.07 - Recently I received an invitation from the Frontline Club to take part in a debate about RCTV. Being a London based media organization that, according to its programme manager, has “over 1000 members from all major UK and international media: BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera, CBC, Sky, Newsweek, The Economist, The New Yorker, all British quality dailies and Sunday papers, The Washington Post, The New York Times, The International Herald Tribune…” a keen interest on the topic of silencing a media outlet was to be expected. Marina Calland, programme manager, kindly asked me to participate stating “we would be absolutely delighted if you could take part in the discussion. We believe that you would greatly enrich the debate due to your extensive knowledge and experience on Venezuelan developments. Your decision to launch VCrisis.com puts you in a particularly informed position to contribute to our discussion.” >>

The Venezuela Connection tries to smuggle 4.5 tonnes of cocaine into Spain
By Aleksander Boyd
25.06.07 - Got up this morning with the breaking news about yet another major drug bust in Las Azores: 4.5 tonnes of cocaine were found onboard vessel Oceania, headed for Spain. Port of origin? You´ve guessed it, Venezuela, where the Chavez-FARC connection has resulted in the turning of the entire territory –nearly 1 million square kilometres- in the world’s biggest launching pad for Colombia’s drug produce. >>

Debunking the official bunk re RCTV
By Alex Beech
23-06-07 | Editor's note: fellow blogger Alex Beech wrote a fantastic piece recently in her blog (http://alexbeech.blogspot.com) about the bunk that Chavez's minions are propagating around the world with respect to the illegal closure of Venezuela's oldest and most watched TV channel. One thing the tinpot dictator doesn't tolerate is criticism. As such citizens of developed countries are used to the regular grilling that some media networks give to elected officials. After all holding public servants to account is one of the fundamental pillars of democracy. In the USA one can see that individuals that have made a career mocking the highest officials are not only regarded within society but very successful and even exalted to iconic status worldwide. Needless to say that I am referring to Michael Moore. Generally speaking in the UK we have more serious or should I say responsible media. It's not 100% fair or accurate, but at least it tries to be, there are regulatory bodies to ensure that regulations are followed, although ultimately regular citizens are every bit as much at the mercy of the unelected media power as they would be in Chavez's kangaroo courts. Upon revision of the talking points that paid apologist keep repeating I keep reaching the same conclusion "if freedom of expression is so widespread in Venezuela, where are our Michael Moores, our Jeremy Paxmans?" I certainly would love to mock the deranged behaviour of the soldier from Barinas, however what are the chances of pulling it and then being able to broadcast it to the nation? What are the chances of me, or anyone else for that matter, shooting a documentary or producing a Newsnight type of programme whereby I can tell Chavez that he's got innocent blood all over him, so that the whole country can see it? I tell you what the odds are, the same as those of a Cuban with Castro or a Zimbabwean with Mugabe. Contrastingly today I read on the BBC website that RCTV had backed a coup against Chavez in 2002. So in customary fashion I sent the following question to the complaints department: >>

1. Yes. I noticed it also. When the site went down for lack of funds
about a month ago some right wing propagandist picked it up and is using it to spread garbage.

I wonder if this is the work of the new money NED has received to spread the USA form of democracy in the region.
