Sniper kills 5 U.S. troops in complex attack
One soldier shot, others lured to booby-trapped house, U.S. general says

"BAGHDAD - A sniper shot and killed a U.S. soldier, then lured his comrades to a booby-trapped house where four more troops were killed in a complex attack believed to have been the work of al-Qaida in Iraq, a U.S. general said Sunday.

U.S. Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, who commands the volatile southern rim of Baghdad and districts to the south, said the use of rigged houses was a new tactic against American forces trying to root out bomb networks in the rural insurgent strongholds.

The soldiers entered the house Saturday in search of the sniper who had killed one of their comrades minutes earlier. One soldier stepped on a pressure-triggered bomb. He and three others were killed and four wounded, Lynch told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.

All the soldiers were assigned to Task Force Marne, which works in Lynch’s area of operations — a volatile mix of Sunni and Shiite extremists..."

2. What exactly is the "hallmark" of Al Qaeda? Because they seemed
more like suicide-bombers, lately.

7. No kidding.
Using a sniper to draw troops into an ambush is an ancient tactic.

AQiI didn't just dream that crap up. It is not unique at all.

This constant "trademarking" is bs propoganda and our people in the military effin know it.

3. if it "complex", it has to be Iran. Because the iraqis are too stupid to learn
what we shove down their throats each and every day.
right.

As juan cole pointed out, the recent attack on a religious leader's security (a best friend to the iranians) was simply not an Iranian attack, yet the DOD annnounced it as such. Whenever it suits DOMESTIC news control, the enemy is either Al Qaida, or Iran. Or both together, (ignoring their mutual hatred, antipathy, and distrust) But it is never a logical result of changing one shortsighted, stupid policy for an even more stupid, pointless policy.

hell, over an 8 month period, we went from attack al sadr's forces, to bribing them, to suggesting negotiations, to bombing and strafing them, to a blockade of Sadr city, to invading sadr city, to making peace initiatives right after we called him the worst enemy in Iraq.
and that simply involves one man. al Sadr.

No, we are in a civil war, and our government won't let us realize that. They would rather have an external enemy they can quantify and demonize, and thereby avoid responsibility for their past repeated fuck ups.

8. Everything is Al Qaeda now.
The Insurgency sounds too benign. Al Qaeda equals Terror. This is why everything is Al Qaeda.

13. What is a democracy without a fourth amendment type right?
Maybe the U.S. should start to take the concept of inalienable rights seriously. Maybe the democratic people of Iraq don't like having their houses broken into while they sleep.

This is a fictional war with non-fictional deaths.
