What happened to the Baptists in the South?
The Southern Baptists are good people, but why did they change from this ---

"We can see no just ground for the enormous military and naval
establishment now being built up and maintained by our government."
~ Southern Baptist Convention, 1936

To this ---

"We express pride and strong support for our American military."
~ Southern Baptist Convention, 2004

As recently as 1977 an anti-torture resolution was issued that condemned "any use of torture as a sin against God and a crime against humanity." It also added that "torture demonstrates the very opposite of love and violates the will of God revealed in Jesus Christ."

Could it be their Convention has been taken over by the false prophets in the neo-conservative movement ? Hopefully the good men and women in the various congregations will see the error of their way and re-join us in the Party of their ancestors.

1. Infiltration
Years ago, another DUer, whose father was an Assemblies of God minister, complained that that denominiation had been infiltrated by political operatives.

Traditionally, fundamentalists didn't get involved in politics at all.

By the way, in the 1930s, opposition to the military WAS a conservative position.

2. That was because they didn't want their hero Adolf involved in a war with the US.
Remember conservatives thought Adolf was a great leader who spoke to the rights bigotries against jews and other mongrel races that were sub human. Step ahead to 2007 and you can see that nothing has changed in their hatreds of anyone not like them.
