Jim Lehrer! This is almost like Gandhi punching out Jesus or something. -WB

ANCHOR NOSTALGIA

August 12, 2007 -- PBS anchor Jim Lehrer takes a veiled shot at Katie Couric , Brian Williams and Charlie Gibson in his upcoming novel, "Eureka." His main character, a scooter-riding insurance executive named Otis Halstead, laments about the evening news: "When there were Huntley-Brinkley and Walter Cronkite and Harry Reasoner and Eric Sevareid and John Chancellor, the reporting had seemed calm, straight, newsy, necessary to watch. Now it wasn't any of those things . . . their newscasts more like entertainment." The change doesn't work for him because audiences already have "plenty of other ways to be entertained. Such as the circus."

Maybe one of these years I'll get around to it. Too many books, too little time. :)
