Credit where Credit is Due: Matthews Like a Dog with a bone on Cheney
Every night, he and David Schuster and a group of reporters go over all of the testimony of the day from the Plame trial. He is pounding away at Cheney and Libby. He is like a dog with a bone.

14. Plus Stephanie Miller ran a clip this morning of Matthews saying
Guiliani was great for cleaning up New York and "a little bit of fascism is what we need.":wow:

15. I said credit where credit is due...not that I like Matthews
He has whored for Bush too long, and now has his sites on Guiliani.

12. Which other cable outlet is covering this case as well as Hardball?
(besides Countdown, whose coverage relies on Schuster, who works for hardball primarily) CNN?

9. Not when it comes to the war in Iraq...
..and the lies that got us there. On this issue he has been consistent.

11. funny I haven't noticed a lot of good coverage of the case on other outlets
I agree he can be annoying as hell, and I have written my share of angry emails to him. However he has been pretty good on covering this case fore a long time.

4. Glad for it, but he still knew this in 2003 and 2004 and let too many GOP operatives
working for the Bush-Cheney campaign to come on his show and get away with smearing Joe Wilson as a liar.

I guess that was how Russert helped to control the story for the WH - by telling Matthews to back down a bit and to book as many anti-Wilson guests as they could.

5. Yes, last night's show was excellent
When he has a good panel, his show can be very good. Plus it was amusing to see how giddy he was. He and schuster have been on this story for a long time, and IMHO have had the best coverage of the case and the issues on television.

8. Getting a call telling him "Wilson's wife is fair game" upped his sniffer
quite some time ago. But it seems like he was under pressure (or orders?) to cool it for a while.

Over the past two or three years, it seems like everytime Matthews would get on a roll he'd go away for a couple of days then come back reprogrammed. Sometimes I wondered if they didn't send him to reprogramming spas. *wink*

10. The rest of the news people preface the Libby trial with "Outside of
the beltway, nobody even knows or cares what this thing is".

16. Hardball was good last night with all those reporters on the 7:00 pm
show to discuss trial. However, the 5:00 pm show was a completely different show. In general, Tweety has completely "under covered" the Libby trial until last night's second show.

Also, as others have pointed out, he did his level best to discredit Wilson in real time. He clearly gave into pressure from the WH at the time. He is no hero and does not really have a nose for news. He is simply an opportunist and a natural Repub. Good God - he thinks a little fascism is good for the country.

18. I think the coverage Tweety is doing on the Libby trial is all about
Tweety's huge, enormous ego. He wasn't interested in this whole subject for three years but suddenly his name is mentioned in a complaint by the COS of the VP and he gets all giddy. Giddy, giggly, I say.

I thought it was hilarious that Tweets had to run clips last night from his previous shows that Libby was complaining about. He didn't give any context, he didn't allow any answers, just his fugly mug doing his "journalism" face for several minutes. The clips didn't do him any great service - he looked schizoid. His name was mentioned in the trial ergo in his small, pandering little brain he is important. He needs constant reassurance that he is important and relevant and good. He has never heard a name he wasn't willing to drop, an ass he wouldn't kiss, a coattail he wouldn't grab to get ahead. He has been sliding along on David Schuster's coattail throughout this whole trial.

He celebrates for a week each year the anniversary of his show - a whole damn week. He constantly congratulates himself on air about his ability to "get" interviews. He quotes endless BS things people have said about him. He is in an endless loop of stroking his own fragile ego and lame ass talents.

You notice he never mentions Keith unless they are doing a show together. I think Tweety (and Russert and Fucker and Dead Intern) are so damn jealous of Keith they can't see straight. They miss the point completely that Keith is popular and good because he shoots straight ALL THE TIME.

17. I thought his coverage .....
last night was excellent. I don't care what he's said in the past right now. I want current news (Libby trial) to be covered to expose the cabal and then we can work on cleaning up the past. Keep on the story Matthews.
