PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (AP) -- The father of a young girl who died of exposure had knocked her unconscious because he was angry, then took her outside in subfreezing temperatures and left her there, police said before the man's arraignment Thursday.

Nyia Miangel Page, who was about to turn 2, was found dead Sunday on a wooded knoll about a 10 minute walk from the family's home.

Tiny footprints in the snow suggested she had gotten up and wandered around before she died, police said.

Her father, William Lorenzo Page, 23, of Braddock, was arrested on charges of criminal homicide, kidnapping, false reports and simple assault. He did not have an attorney in court Thursday morning, and was jailed without bond.

15. Indeed, if even that. Even hardened
prisoners have their own "justice" system.

16. That's true.
Even the most hardened criminals do not look kindly upon child abusers.

5. This is a local story for me. It's horrifying.
They just released the info about her tiny little footprints - that poor baby must have been terrified. And it was below zero that night - imagin how cold she must have been. I have to block a lot of this out, or I'd be in tears all day.

6. Oh, god, that is terrible.
That poor girl. I hope the guy rots in jail for a long, long time. Hit her over the head so hard she passed out, for refusing to go back to bed? She was not even 2, for fuck's sake. I'm not generally a violent person, but some people make me really, really angry. Fury might begin to describe it.

9. They're probably going to make it manslaughter but with other charges as well
I think that the Sociopath thought he killed her, so he took her outside wrapped up in a blanket, and was probably planning to make it look like someone else did it or something to that effect.

10. That's terrible
As a Father myself, I wonder how does somebody get to the point that putting a 2 year old outside in such conditions seems like a reasonable thing to do?

11. Clearly something mentally wrong with the father.
Even 'normal' criminals will balk at killing children. It's hard coded into us to balk at killing children, the ultimate line that shall not be crossed. People who do are probably not safe to have in society, and probably never will be.

17. Yes, let the justice system do its job, as we should, but I
assure you that even those of us inside the justice system often privately join in on your sentiments, believe me.

14. That poor baby. I read about the amber alert and the search
and then read last night that she was found dead. I wondered if a parent had done something..the poor little girl was only wearing a top and a diaper IIRC.

And add "depraved indifference" to the charges while you're at it.

I can't understand how anyone could do that to a little girl. I can't imagine treating a pet that way, never mind a child..
