Man suspected of raping other men caught
Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 11:16 AM by ck4829
What questions do you think the Defense will NOT ask the victims of this rapist? Will the media look at their sexual histories?

(I say this BTW as a male and of course I feel bad for the victims)

2. you make interesting points. one DOES wonder if they will attempt to paint
the victims as "asking for it" or "dressing provocatively", or of having a history of promiscuity.

I kind of wish they would, if only to make the point how obscene that is to do to female victims.

6. The victims were just men. No biggie.

Female teacher wants to rape underage students? No problem.

Men being raped in prison? No problem.

Men being falsely accused of rape in a national media event? No problem.

There have been some pretty evil men throughout history, so therefore fuck all men. They can be raped, beat, slandered, marginalized, and laughed at because other men have done bad things.

These men who were raped: They had it coming for past crimes of evil men.

Because a few evil men make jokes about women being raped, the appropriate thing for us at DU to do is stoop to their level.

:puke:

14. Rape is disgusting and horrible no matter who the victim is. My reply wasn't about that.

21. Agreed, the victims don't deserve the negativity. The SYSTEM does, not the victims.
A rape victim is a rape victim.

10. This statistic is interesting .....
"The U.S. Justice Department says one in 33 men in the United States has been a victim of a rape or attempted rape, compared with one in six women."

In otherwords only 3.03% of all men in the United States have been victims of rape while 16.67% of all women have been victims of rape. My guess would be that the men were primarily in highly restricted circumstances such as prisons, institutions, military and so forth. What seems to make this case unique is that it is not just rape of a man by a man, but that it has ocurred in the streets so to speak.

rape1 (rāp)
n.
- The crime of forcing another person to submit to sex acts, especially sexual intercourse.
- The act of seizing and carrying off by force; abduction.
- Abusive or improper treatment; violation: a rape of justice.

17. Male rape isn't as frequently reported
many professionals surmise, because of the "additional" shame associated with it for men in our society. While female rape victims have come some way towards being de-stigmatized, male rape victims aren't so fortunate.

Regardless, both statistics are probably low, in fact probably very low since our culture still shames the victim unmercifully and many vics won't report.

'do you enjoy musical theatre?'

'have you or have you not EVER listened to the village people?'

'were you wearing cologne on the night in question?'

man, that could be a LOOOOONG list

on edit: i just bet an investigation of the resources spent on this case would easily prove that FAR more was spent than on cases involving women.

19. Well, if they are gay it will probably come into play --
but if not, none of the tests typically applied to female rape victims will be applied.

Of course, they don't deserve to be treated that way, so this is a good thing. But neither do female victims.
