6. the internet puts all the world's information at our fingertips
with the ability to get at least a basic understanding of what is going on around us, and this is what people choose to unleash their righteous indignation on?

yikes, it boggles the mind.

but it's okay, because i'm sitting here enjoying a cup of coffee and a cigarette, i have the day off work, listening to some fucking jams, and am still going strong even though i didn't go to bed last night.

and a big big hi back at ya...

7. And just making a bad impression on that vast group of MOR
voters, who really don't like that kind of whining. People can be offended if they must, but making a big deal out of it plays right into right wing hands.

22. From what I've read Snickers pissed off people on both sides
Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 12:30 PM by Mike Daniels
Pissed off the left by having the guys react the way they did

Pissed off the right by having the guys "kiss" in the first place.

Me, I simply saw a stupid commercial that didn't serve to promote the product effectively in any fashion.

But as a protest against all the people bitching out Mars Candy/Snickers for this offense or the other, I bought a bar and enjoyed every damn bite of it.

9. Adding to the controversy...it insults mechanics
MORE than it insults gay men IMO

Yes, it disses gay men but additionally it makes mechanics in general look like homophobic, rednecked, ugly neanderthals.

I say this in the spirit of a joke in response to the OP, but honestly I find the ad additionally offensive due to the forementioned!

24. With all due respect
If this doesn't make a whit of difference to you, butt out. For some people, including a lot of people I care about, this is just another calculated insult to the very core of their being, holding up their identity to further ridicule and inviting some more abuse.

If the M&M/Mars company wants to sell candy bars, and wants to advertise to do it, more power to them. But do they have to injure a vulnerable segment of society to do so? Would you be more sensitive if the commercial portrayed unemployed persons in a negative light, and invited the public to sit in judgment of people who are out of work? Seems to me life is tough enough when you're looking for a job without some "stupid" commercial piling on like that.

and don't buy their products. you don't think i have people that i care about that this ad insults? i absolutely do.

but it's a stupid commercial. there are much bigger and more important things that do more real damage to the people insulted by this ad.

mountains out of molehills.

28. I don't know -- do you?
Because the people I care about run enough risks in their lives without a stupid commercial on broadcast television during the most-watched sporting event in the nation giving further ideas to a society that doesn't have their best interests in mind as it is.

It doesn't matter whether I or you or any individual turns off the television; it's the impression that's fostered in society at large. And if you now want to run away from the stink bomb you just threw out here, that's fine with me; but I have to say that it's really, really offensive to try to tell someone else that because you aren't personally affected by something that they shouldn't be, either.
