1. If this is a government attack
Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 09:57 AM by tnlurker
Then they are probably prepping for the predicted Iran attack.
If the US attacks Iran they will not want people to get information form anywhere but government approved sources.
The internet will go down but Fox, CNN, ABC, etc will all be broadcasting the corporate and government lines.
They would slowly bring back the internet but first only the mainstream sites that will toe the line. We might not see DU and similar sites for quites some time until the blame is firmly set in everybody's mind that Iran caused the attack.

2. DoD network information center was targeted, also .uk and .org domains
Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 01:36 PM by nashville_brook
from the boing boing article..

"Among the apparent targets was a root server controlled by the Department of Defense Network Information Center. There is also evidence to suggest the attackers targeted the servers responsible for managing the stability of the ".uk" and ".org" domains."

what this means is that for about an hour on Monday, between 5pm and 6pm EDT -- the DoD network was down/clogged/compromised. i wonder what else was going on Monday, between 5 and 6pm?

*sheesh -- each one of these articles has a different time span on the attack -- Guardian says 12 hours. Washington Post says it started at 7pm EDT and was vague on the duration. the canadian power point presentation has graphed traffic data that indicates the worst of the attack started at precisely 10 UTC (5pm EDT), ended an hour later, but that the attack went on for nearly 8 hours.

3. I read an article about this a few days ago and saw a report on CNN the other day.
It wasn't completely ignored, but it really should have been covered more than it was. This could have been VERY serious.
