"Enterprising freckle-faced kid with American flag" and Keith Olbermann busted by Fox News's Gibson

From the GREAT STATE OF MAINE...

I admit it.

I was the enterprising freckle-faced kid with an American flag in one hand and a bag of dreams in the other who asked Keith Olbermann if he would be so kind as to send me an autographed photo which I would, in turn, donate to last month's YearlyKos auction. The answer was yes. The photo was received, and donated to the auction, by me. (Not meaning to complain, but it was rather paltry compared to what Bill Moyers sent me: Three autographed DVDs and two autographed books.)

Little did anyone know that Keith and I would be BUSTED! by one of the puppets working at the Fox Opinion Channel: John Gibson. I cede the floor to Mr. Olbermann, from last night's show:

"(Gibson is) whining because I donated an autographed photo to the YearlyKos convention. Says it's against journalistic policy. Quoting him: 'When I was at NBC that got you fired!'

Firstly: John, when you were at NBC you WERE fired!

Number two: John, you work for Roger Ailes. Roger Ailes!!...who is the head political consultant for Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign RIGHT NOW!

Autographed picture (on one hand), simultaneously running a presidential campaign and a pretend news network (on the other).

John, there are people who watch NBC who will still acknowledge NBC is a news organization. There's no one outside of Fox viewers who have ever thought for a second that Fox is a news organization. Nobody! You're part of a national embarrassment, and you're bitching about an autographed photo!

John Gibson of Fixed News...today's Worst Person In The World!!"

In case you're wondering: yes, this is the same John Gibson whose producer refuses to apologize for claiming last week that John Edwards "whored his wife's cancer as a fundraising gimmick." Pleasant fellow....

8. Faux really should just change their name to
Entertainment Weekly or something along those lines. It's an insult to my intelligence that they think they are a news channel. :banghead:

10. I love that Keith puts them in their place.
When I was growing up, I thought it was wise for people to ignore personal attacks, letting their nasty remarks stand for others to judge. The flaw of that mindset is that it is based on the assumption that most people are fair-minded, critical-thinking, & are turned off by blatant lies.

In this down-is-up political climate, it is critical that every one of these blatant lies be answered because the odds on a number of Faux News zombies hearing both sides will increase: "Who is Keith Olbermann -- I think I'll watch him & check him out."

11. KO is not afraid to call out lies when he sees them
and to swing the truth like a big club when necessary. Fixed Noise needs (at least) a daily clubbing.

12. Love me some KO but I think MSNBC may be getting too popular?
It seems allot of their other news personalities are starting shift and sound allot like their fox friends. How they are handling interviews with some democratic candidates and how they all seem to be pushing Clinton as hard or harder than fox. Its like the MTV phase, start off showing all Music Television Videos or in this case news, after you gain a major viewing audience, you show less and less Music Television Videos or in this case real news. What would a person have to do to start a local public television news show? Is that even possible nowadays? Just curious.

13. I seldom watch anything but KO on MSNBC
but when I do, I see exactly what you mean. They are owned by GE so they are in bed with the corporate overlords as much as any other network. I am often surprised GEMSNBC lets him do what he does, but I guess ratings are the bottom line.

I don't know how one would start a news program on public tv. I guess a phone call to the local PBS affiliate would be the place to start. Somehow I suspect you would encounter lots of road blocks.

21. How to start you own local news
Most TV cable companies have an agreement with the city (or other local govt) that allows them to provide cable in the municipality. Most such agreements call for the cable operator to set aside public access TV channels and sometimes facilities (space and equipment). Call up city hall and ask who handles relations with the local cable company and find out what the arrangements are.

Google public access television or community access TV and you'll see what's out there.

It's a terrific idea and, if you have the commitment and energy, it would be a great service to your community.

14. You know, that's an important point you make. Things HAVE changed...
and if attacks aren't answered, I think they stand. And if someone doesn't, for example, tell the truth about Fox News, the idea is not even out there that it's "news" with a strong right-wing agenda.

17. I used to wonder how the assholes....
...at Faux slept at night. Then I realized that lies, duplicity and treason wouldn't bother an organism with only a brain stem and no ability for cognitive thought.

These people are the vilest of cretins and should not be allowed to breed.
