I passed a truck on the way to work this morning that had the "Kerry is Scary" bumpersticker and it got me to thinking about all the ones I really hate.

Not only is that condescending and idiotic, but it also completely misses the point of liberalism. The point of modern liberalism is to ensure that people have enough to satisfy their needs. One of those needs is having gainful employment which will allow people to be self sufficient, earning a living wage and not needing to be in panic mode about having to make a doctor's office co-pay. It is conservatism that makes the working class suffer through low wages, poor safety standards and no safety net. Liberalism seeks to enhance the lives of ordinary people, not reduce them to scraping by for a mean existance in the name of small government.

For those who don't know, James Earl Ray assassinated Martin Luther King Jr. The bumper sticker was a faded one I saw on a truck in Georgia during (I think) the late 1980s.

Unfortunately, too many people, in the south and elsewhere, felt (and perhaps still feel) this way.

Well, now that James Earl Ray is dead and (almost) forgotten, perhaps the bigots out there can put on a new sticker that says Hate Your Local Mexicans.
