Ah Ha! So THIS is Why Gonzales Smirks So Damn Much >>

Methinks the Congresspeople who voted for increased surveillance powers have just slit their own throats...

The Bush administration plans to leave oversight of its expanded foreign eavesdropping program to the same government officials who supervise the surveillance activities and to the intelligence personnel who carry them out, senior government officials said yesterday.

The law, which permits intercepting Americans' calls and e-mails without a warrant if the communications involve overseas transmission, gives Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell and Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales responsibility for creating the broad procedures determining whose telephone calls and e-mails are collected. It also gives McConnell and Gonzales the role of assessing compliance with those procedures.

And they think it's just U.S.-foreign calls they're targeting! :eyes:

Yep. I think the Dems just cut their own throats on this one.

3. The NSC must think they are a nation and constitution
onto themselves. Where is their conscience in all this. It's like they have been waiting in the wings to assist a coup.

4. Remember it is only for six months.
I doubt anything important will be discussed in that time frame. Oh wait...elections, impeachments. Yes I think that everyone who voted for that has other things they are hiding from us. The pain of blackmail is a hurtful thing.

9. I should have used the sarcasm button.
I realize that now that it has passed to law it will never be removed. Thanks for the info though. Peace, Kim

5. Who could've seen THAT coming?
That's what it's all about. I don't even think they give a rats ass about catching any terrists. All they want to do is dig up shit on their oppponents and potential opponents. And the stupid ass Dems just handed them a loaded gun and invited them to point it at them.

Rove must be ROFL right now. You can almost visualize the tears running down his fat cheeks as he lays there guffawing. They just handed him the means of their own destruction.

6. And IF they dare to try to gin up the pressure on him, look for the WH
to fire up their new campaign of lies..

"The deomcRAT congress gave us new powers, knowing that the AG would be ultimately in charge..so why are they continuing to attack him for partisan reasons?"

they will use the same old tried and true method..just like they did with the "they confirmed Petraeus and now they refuse to support him" mantra.

Why can ordinary people like us, figure this shit out, and our supposedly smart legislators seem to be babes in the woods, ready to have their lunch money stolen...day aftre day?

7. When will the cops let us monitor our own hwy speed? or our bosses monitor our working hours?
Then every six months we can each send a report telling the police how often we violated the speed limit or failed to come to a complete stop at a stop sign.

Twice a year we can report to our bosses how many times we were late, or took a long lunch, or goofed off on the internet. Maybe they'll let us all decide our own raises too!

This is what passes for "oversight" in this administration, under the watchful and ever vigilent eye of this Congress.

I need a drink.

10. There are 121 co-sponsors of resolution stating no confidence in Gonzales...
...would could possibly be the reason for not bringing a vote to the floor? No filibuster there....we have a solid majority.

Could have been done weeks ago...certainly could have been done before FISA vote to good effect.
