I have traveled there many times and the people seem to be normal progressive people - probably I don't see enough of them.

1. I wonder the same thing about NY and Pataki, NYC and Guiliani and Cali and Schwartzenegger

4. As for California and Schwartzenegger
We had an unappealing Dem whom no one had heard of running against him. Everybody, whether you like him or not, has heard of Arnie. Then there were the voting machines. The Dem candidate wasn't popular enough to overcome the fix. Debra Bowen was and she just barely squeaked in.

As for Snow and Collins, they are moderate, and frequently make sense.

2. New England pubbies are a different breed from those
in the rest of the country. Prior to 1980, when Reagan delivered the party to the lunatics, I'd vote for one if s/he happened to be more liberal than the Democrat, something that happened now and then. New England pubbies are more along the lines of the party of Lincoln and T. Roosevelt than the party of Reagan and Delay.

However, once they get to DC, they are under tremendous pressure to conform, else they'll lose RNC support in their election campaigns.

Unfortunately, too many people in New England still haven't figured that part out, and keep voting for pubbies they consider reliably sane.

And that is why Collins and Snowe are in the Senate.

5. I wonder if you shouldn't factor in MONEY as well on that idea
You have alot of these lace-curtain rich (aka Bush and spawn) who have more money than they can ever need or want owning property in Maine. I wonder just how many of them vote in the area, and vote to keep putting pukes into office - JUST to keep the *locals* poor and without a voice.

Having grown up there, I always wondered WHY these slack-jawed yes monkeys kept getting voted into office. There certainly was enough people screaming for change. But it was poor people screaming. They rarely were heard. And these rich outlanders sure don't want anyone messing with *their* vacationland. :grr:

3. Until last November, Massachusetts had 4 rethug governors in a row
Edited on Mon Aug-06-07 04:44 PM by rox63
We even elected Mittens as Governor, which turned out to be a grieveous mistake. We like our new Dem governor (Deval Patrick) just fine. All our Congress-critters have been Dems for a while. Even the bluest states have a few streaks of red here and there.

6. New England is Traditionally "Rock-Ribbed" Republican
The type of Republicanism, however, is much different from the party in the Subelt. It is prudent, fiscally conservative, isolationist. A dying breed.
