I've been away a while...
Edited on Mon Aug-06-07 03:58 PM by soulcore
...taking care of business as it where. I quit my comfortable, boring, corporate rat-in-a-cube job and haven't looked back since.

So what have I missed? I start to catch up and I can't believe it...

A massive bridge collapses, a bridge known to be structurally unsound. Baghdad is dying. No water, no power. 120 degree heat. Is it Genocide yet?

And then we have our shit-stain of a congress legalizing the domestic spying program. And they want to insulate telecom companies from liability for goign 100% against what the constitution states is legal.

And does anyone outside the DU care?

No. Hell no even.

The answer is always no, and I fear we may have passed the point of no return in stopping the carnage or even getting people to take notice of it. We are out of compassion. Out of understanding. Out of love as a species.

I fear it won't be long before I'm rounded up and put in a camp for my 'terrorist loving' (read: liberal) political views.

Anybody got any GOOD news for me?

3. I have one too, that's good right?
But seriously, any good news out there I missed.

All I see is death, death, death.

Even more so than the usual media frenzy of carnage we get.

Good news can be catching a beautiful sunset or sunrise...and sometimes, that's as good as it gets for one day....but I sure do enjoy watching both

4. I know how you feel.
I was away from home for two weeks last month, mostly out of contact with any news at all. Imagine my distress when I got back only to discover that Gonzo is still AG, Bush and Cheney are both still in office, with no sign of impeachment on the horizon. We still have however many hundred thousand soldiers in Iraq, with several dying every day. Not to mention the hundreds of Iraqis who die every day from suicide bombers, kidnap/murder, lack of decent medical care and god knows what else. What is wrong with everyone?

6. This weekend, I discovered that maybe the sheeple are waking up.
Trace Adkins (macho country singer)has been invited to a White House dinner and will sit at the head table. When asked what he felt about being invited by the Shrub - his response: "He won't like me after I've had dinner. I mean, you don't wear out your welcome until you've had your food. When I'm done eatin', I'll look at him and say - What the hell are y'all thinking? I came here to eat, but with all the mess you've created, I'm going to stay here, boot you out, and clean it up." (paraphrasing) The audience went crazy (in a good way).

The guy (can't remember his name) who did the boot in your ass song, and hated the Dixie Chicks? Saw him, and he was singing about everyone having the right to have their opinion, no matter how much it would tick you off. And his guitar case had a "COEXIST" sticker (the one with the various religious symbols) on it.

THEN (yes, I've got redneck tastes) at the NASCAR race yesterday during the Star Spangled Banner when the guy got to the part of "and our flag was still there" fans started booing - loudly.

Our "elected" officials need to take another look at their "red state" voters. They're not happy.

Does this help?

7. indeed it does.
I must say I'm far removed from both the 'redneck' and the mainstream in me. Living in Red-State Texas is bad enough, but the news lately has just been awful, so I took a sabbatical from all things political for a bit.

It's either almost over for us fighting the good fight, or the revolution will be beginning very soon.

I've always said that when term 2 was up Chimpy McCokespoon wouldn't relinquish power, and as it stands now he's well on his way to doing it and having it be legal to boot.

8. I live in Texas, too. And I hear you.
With so much of my other personal downers to the mix, I do my best to look for the good things. Sometimes it ain't easy, darn near impossible.

But the winds are changing. I was an oddity with my Kerry sign in 04, and it was a brave and daring act to be "out of the closet". Now I see progressive bumperstickers, people aren't scared any more.

A conservative friend of mine and former ditto-head is now calling for anarchy, and he ain't playing.

Hard-shell Shrub lovers are finally admitting he's an idiot.

Look for the positive. Notice the sea change, however slight. If our government doesn't wake up like the people are, they're screwed.
