From the time machine - a look at America, 15 years forward...
I was late for work today.

After my morning prayers were verified by the precinct priest, I stopped by the corner news vendor for a copy of The Daily Directive - I sure didn't want to be caught without the day's Presidential Edicts on hand. As I was waiting for the CoalBus, the group I was with, was called on to Witness the trial and Just Stoning of a suspected lesbian. The arresting priest kindly demanded our obedience, and we all complied, giving Thanks to God and our glorious Leader for the gift of seeing the wicked exposed, and duly punished. Praise God.

Even after I humbly explained my tardiness to the Corporate supervisor, he righteously docked me two days pay and re-assigned me to the casket room. I am thankful to the supervisor for giving me the gift of humility. Praise God.

As a dutiful employee (and parishioner of my country), I joined the others during the day's meal period to read through today's Presidential Edicts. I was gladdened to see that President Bush (long may he rule in God's name) finally disbanded the Congress (they deserved it, after daring to debate a sanctified Presidential Edict). After all, everyone knows God told our eternal President that repealing the Bill of Rights was our best defense against the Godless terrorists and wicked homosexuals. And, to be fair, Congress did pass the last two Amendments as ordered by Holy Justice Alito and Holy Supreme Justice Roberts. And Governor-General Gonzolaz has decreed the banning to be fully within our Holy Leader's divine stricture. Who needs a Congress anyway, when our Corporations do a better job of representing us, as was intended by the Founding Shareholders? Congress was just a waste of divine resources, better put to fighting the terrorists, homosexuals, and liberals. Praise God.

Speaking of liberals, we caught one in our section today. I was finishing up the frame of a very nice casket for a Crusader who died in Massachusetts fighting against the godless Constitutionalists, when the man next to me commented about what a "waste" it was to send our young men and women off to die. Luckily, the monitors were on their toes, and before I could even straighten up to inform the shift supervisor he was swarmed by Corporate priests, who performed a quick exorcism to cleanse him of blasphemous thoughts, which thankfully, ended his life. Praise God.

It has been about fifteen years now, since our President was ordered by God to retain his Holy Office, and as a faithful American, I couldn't be happier. I used to miss my children, but their service in the munitions factory takes precedence over a parent's love, and I am proud of them - their section always turns a profit. Praise God.

Tomorrow is my mother's Final Conversion. I have been ordered to attend by the precinct priest. She might have been granted another five years, had she a skill of any use to the Corporation in charge of our county, but school teachers are not profitable, and at 60, she is merely a useless pensioner, a drain on the sacred balance sheet. I am thankful that her body will provide at least heat energy to the munitions factory where her grandchildren work. I only hope when my Final Conversion comes, the Corporation will find my body so useful - perhaps I'll even be chosen as an Organ Donor. Who knows? Maybe my kidneys or liver will go to extend the life of a Divine CEO. Dear Lord and President, I pray I might be so blessed. Praise God.

6. Too bad that how it will be
I'll be in one of the camps long before that.

I don't think Congress will be in place for more than 2 more years. Who needs a congress when there are no elections, and disputing the word of the "Decider" is treason, anyway.

23. The story is representative
of the sub-class in Bush world, and the language I chose fit this, for me. No insult against Catholics was intended, or should be inferred. I believe Bush will use whatever trappings he finds useful, and to a secularist like myself, 'priest' and 'preacher' are interchangeable terms. I don't follow a religion, so I don't pay much attention to the various labels used by different religions. In fact, I went to Wikipedia to look up 'papist', as I was uncertain as to its meaning.

25. But the OP never said "papist", you did.
Nice strawman, though.

For a piece of fiction you couldn't come up with on your own, you had plenty to say in deconstructing the original poster's subtext, completely out of context.

Haven't you learned anything about the Bush regime over the last 7 years? Of course future Bush would set-up a Catholic regime, at the expense of the Right Wingers. He's a neo-con. And Chief Justice Roberts is a Roman Catholic. Makes both sides happy when none are getting exactly what they want.

The OP is offering a brilliant observation of where this country is headed. Just like Brave New World, Valley of the Dolls, Network and 1984 warned us decades ago what this country had in store, the OP is merely sending out yet another red flag in hopes someone, anyone, is paying attention.

30. Well
The attack was within his disagreement with me, when he said that it's a "piece of fiction I couldn't write." Considering, I've written and sold screenplays, he's right. I couldn't write something that looks like HS plaigarism.

The OP is very similar to some John Birch Society-type Klan literature I've seen.

32. I'm not sure where all the snark is coming from here.
Oh wait....yes I am.

"John Birch Society-type Klan Literature" From what I can see the OP made an honest effort at a short piece of fiction. And I don't find it John Birchish at all. And even from someone who has from their own lips has "written and sold screenplays that is uncharacteristically nasty.

Your first cryptic response is:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x1526869#1528734

and then you make the leap that he "installed a Catholic regime" here

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x1526869#1528919

If you are referring to the fact that he used Alito and Roberts and Gonzales for his leaders I find it odd you would take offense at that. If you think he picked them because they are Catholic I would suggest you are misguided and looking for boogie men where they don't exist. Or, if you are referring to his usage of the word "priests" last time I checked the Aztecs had priests.

You got called on your posts in a mostly civil way and then play the victim and say you were attacked.

Please.

35. I apologize if you think I'm attacking you. That wasn't my intention.
Edited on Wed Aug-08-07 12:28 AM by JackBeck
I can see how you may have taken it that way in my post but that wasn't my intention. I wasn't attacking you at all, so I really do sincerely apologize if you saw it that way. I should have changed one word in my post from "couldn't" to "didn't". And today, when I had a few minutes to catch up after my staff meeting and preparing for a conference I'm attending that was thrust upon me last minute, I saw where I could have been misinterpreted. I hope you understand, since I never intended to offend. That's not my style, as you should know.

Moving on, to address more than just one word in my post, don't you think that you set up a straw man in your "papist" post? Where did you come up with that one?

29. Being that America has no experience with a state church,

I envision a sectarian pecking order, in about twenty years. Perhaps a "Department of Internal Religious Affairs" headed by some Southern Baptist big wig. The Southern Baptist Convention has influence on policy lately, being that they have the largest membership numbers of out of hundreds of Protestant churches. The Southern Baptist could appoint a few other "committee members" from other Fundie denominations and maybe a token Catholic or Lutheran. "State Church" - no, just some faith based bureau, they think is a "necessary evil." (ha, ha!) just to make sure they can iron out some conflicts of interests. (Which I imagine, are few, but gives them an excuse for established power.) Really, it could be a means to consolidate regional authority.

Utah leaves the union to establish a theocratic republic with little protest. DIRA points at Utah as an example of a "true" theocracy for propaganda purposes, and many Fundies think The LDS Church is a cult anyway.
