Afghanistan Claims Iran is Helping Them
by Timothy Gatto | Aug 5 2007

Today Hamid Karzi was on Wolf Blitzer’s “Late Edition” and when asked by Blitzer if Iran has been supplying arms to “foreign fighters” and was Iran actually harming or helping the Afghani government of Karzi. He also asked whether or not they were a negative or a positive factor in the “war on terror”. Karzi didn’t blink and answered that Iran has great relations with Afghanistan and that they are actually helping with the war and that they were a positive influence. Wow.

Now Karzi is meeting today with Bush. I wonder what the Administration will do to cover up that bit of good publicity for Iran? Will the Bush Administration ask him to change his mind about what he told Blitzer? Will they come up with a new “spin” on what Karzi actually meant to say? This statement by Karzi needs to get the utmost coverage by the MSM. Not only will it show Americans that Cheney and his rush to blame every sort of disaster on the Iranians, but it will also do wonders to defuse the tensions between Iran and the US. Cheney can’t very well attack an “ally” of this “War on Terror” in Afghanistan now, could he?

He could very well continue if the lamesrtream media buries what Karzi said. I imagine that’s exactly what they will do. Who is it that tells the media what they can hype and what they can’t? What I’m saying here is who are the actual person or persons that will go to CNN or CBS or the other major networks and say “Don’t make an issue out of that.” Is it the NSA or some other governmental agency? Somebody has got to be influencing our MSM. If this were to have happened, say in the 70’s, there would be hell to pay and a horde of reporters would be gathering evidence of Iran helping Afghanistan.

Not today, just about the only place that you will see this is what you are reading here and what you will read about it at other “Progressive Sites”. The information just doesn’t fit the “template” of the configuration of the world according to BushCo. Let’s see how much coverage we get out of that statement from the leader of Afghanistan about the help he has been receiving from Iran. I believe him it makes sense. Iran doesn’t want anything to do with Sunni al Qaeda.

4. I don't
but that's not what I implied. I'm happy to believe the man said what he meant and meant what he said. What he said is a matter of record - it's the WH who may attempt change the meaning. I gave no more than an absurd example of that.

8. *U** is live on CNN as I write
and he's twisted it. He implied that it's insufficient for Karsai to say the Iran is helping : it's up to Iran to prove it. What a fucking joker.

5. BBC News link
But our correspondent says the US is just as worried about the influence of neighbouring Iran, accusing Tehran of supplying weapons to the Taleban.

Mr Karzai appeared to rebut such claims in an interview with CNN taped on Saturday in Kabul, calling Iran "a helper and a solution".

"Iran has been a supporter of Afghanistan, in the peace process that we have and the fight against terror, and the fight against narcotics in Afghanistan," he said.
