Bush at the Bridge ---pix--->>>
Edited on Sat Aug-04-07 11:27 AM by Stephanie

With 1500 dead in New Orleans and thousands stranded, George could not be moved to interrupt his vacation or even turn on freaking CNN.

Fewer than ten dead in Minneapolis but George is there in a heartbeat for his photo-op. What's the difference?

His appearance does nothing positive, and only sucks up resources needed for the recovery.

He must not have been able to find any willing participants, so demanded at least 1 black somewhere in the general vicinity and the police officer got stuck standing there. Poor guy.:(

51. Excuse me? Only black people vote for black politicians? This kinda shoots THAT theory all to hell:
12.9% are Black in Ellison's 5th District. 73.5% are White

and besides that, the Governor is a REPUKE WHITE MAN....NOT a DEMOCRATIC WOMAN from a city with a MAJORITY BLACK population .....prior to Katrina, that is. Bush did a 'racial cleansing' of NOLA . Everyone knows why he's in Minneapolis. We're not stupid. He hates black people....

Minnesota's 5th congressional district
The 5th congressional district of Minnesota since 2002
The 5th congressional district of Minnesota since 2002
Area 124<1> mi² (321 km²)
Distribution 100% urban, 0% rural
Population (2000) 614,935<2>
Median income $23,798
Ethnic composition 73.5% White, 12.9% Black, 5.2% Asian, 6.0% Hispanic, 1.6% Native American
Cook Partisan Voting Index D + 21

Minnesota's Fifth Congressional District is a geographically small urban and suburban congressional district in eastern Minnesota. It covers eastern Hennepin County, including the entire city of Minneapolis, along with parts of Anoka and Ramsey counties. It was created in 1883 and was named the "Bloody Fifth" on account of the first election.<3> The district is strongly Democratic with a CPVI of D + 21.<4>

Major cities in the district include Minneapolis, St. Louis Park, Richfield, Crystal, Robbinsdale, Golden Valley, and Fridley.<snip>

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota%27s_5th_congressional_district

The first official survey of the city’s post-Katrina population was reported in October 2006. Overall, the population had declined by about 60 percent. The survey estimated that New Orleans had a population of 187,525 in 2006, well below the 2000 census of 484,674. Because most of the city’s rental housing was destroyed by the storm and because federal aid for reconstruction was delayed, many of the city’s poor and working-class residents were unable to return after the disaster. The survey estimated that the city’s racial makeup was 44 percent white and 46 percent black, a significant change from the period prior to Katrina, when blacks made up about 67 percent of the population.

55. Oh please stop. If you can't see the difference, there's no hope.
You insinuated that Ellison was elected because he lived in a black district. He DOESN'T. George Bush is there because the Governor of Minnesota is a WHITE man and vetoed a transportation bill that would have funded the bridge repair, so he's trying to help bail him out of THAT mess (good luck with that) and because it's a predominately white population. We have all watched what he's done or NOT done for NOLA.....Majority black population, Black Mayor.....WHITE Democratic WOMAN. Open your eyes and stop defending that freak. He's a racist pig.

Edited on Sat Aug-04-07 11:39 AM by ocelot
And it wouldn't look good to have a big heap of rubble lying around, considering that said rubble is the result of the Republicans' policy of no-taxation neglect. Timmy The Tool wants the place to look all sparkly clean when his masters come to town so he can be considered for the VP spot.

Has the Idiot-In-Chief had his photo op with the Black and Hispanic children who went over the bridge in the school bus yet? He always has to be seen "comforting" the unfortunate -- about whom he doesn't give a shit except as props.

35. Bush walked with Gary Babineau but not Jeremey Hernandez? Why not both young heroes???
The White House has picked A School Bus Hero for their photo op/sound byte needs.

Why didn't Jeremy Hernandez walk alongside the prez and Gary Babineau?

Jeremy is the counselor aboard the school bus who kicked the back door open, took charge of the situation IN the bus and handed all of those kids down and out of that bus to folks like Gary Babineau. Both young men have been featured in local news interviews and reports.

This morning, Bush commented as if Gary is the sole hero in the save-the-kids-on-the-school-bus scenario. (I'm pretty sure Jeremy Hernandez is not hospitalized, and if he is, Bush should have mentioned his name at the very least and even better, visited him with cameras present)

Jeremy Hernandez, the gym coordinator for Waite House. "I think anybody would have reacted the way I did in that time span."

45. Well, I guess the Shrub didn't get my message from the other day
when I screamed, STAY THE HELL AWAYfrom Minneapolis.

This is exactly what I didn't want to see. I knew he wouldn't be able to resist a photo-op at the scene of the tragedy and it was a chance for him to once again run around in his little hard hat.

If he had just gone to Minneapolis and met with the leaders, talked to them, spoke with the grieving families and then come home, I might (might) have had the tiniest speck of respect for him.

But no...the pResident in Thief just had to go for his little picture-fest, trying to look Oh-so grieved by what has happened.

Damn him and everyone that serves him. He is totally without shame or conscience.
