I wonder if the House will Refuse to pass FISA that Senate just Passed?
Edited on Sat Aug-04-07 09:48 AM by KoKo01
I listened to Reid an Pelosi's Presser yesterday and got distinct impression that Reid was against the extra authority to Gonzo put into the FISA Bill and felt the Senate would delay it. Yet we find that Senate voted after Reid/Pelosi Presser and 16 Dems voted against Reid.

Why did Reid make a statement then have 16 of his Dems defect? Is he not able to hold the Dems together? If so he's not an effective leader if he doesn't know in advance how many votes he has.

Or, could he have felt it was better to dump this bad FISA re-authorization onto the House and hope that the House would not be able to agree on it and so it would be tabled until after Recess? If that's the case it's a clever move...but it dumps on Pelosi something that's a mess that Reid was supposed to control.

Here's what I posted yesterday about the Presser shown on C-Span. I wish I had a transcript to link to but here's what I heard. It sure seems to conflict with what Reid and the Senate did yesterday with l6 dems joining the block of Repugs.

Listening to Reid/Pelosi Presser......I picked up that Reid said McConnell was looking to add stuff

to the Bill that was different from what he and McConnell had agreed on...and depending on if and what House Passes...that the Senate might have to "review" it. And it could go into next week.

What's amazing is that Reid was saying he'd keep the Senate in Session into next week while the House leaves. I'm hoping that means that Reid KNOWS about Bushies "Interim Recess Appointments" and might just be willing to keep enough Senators there to keep a Quorum or whatever..in place so BUSH CANNOT do his RECESS STUFF SHENANIGANS!

But...whatever...I thought Reid was saying "We Might Not Pass what the House Passes...if there's Extra Stuff Bush/Cheney put into that bill which would VIOLATE the agreement between me and McConnell and Leahy who want's a "Six Month FIX" to be reviewed after that.

 Just my read of Reid, here from his comments.

2. Exactly. The House will cave into Bush's demands for warrantless wiretapping
Just as the Senate did.

My main question this morning: where is our recourse in this country? Where do we go when we need recourse from this lawless Administration?

- The Congress is continuing to let BushCo have its way

- The courts are stacked with Bush appointees.

Where is our recourse against this lawless Administration?

3. I can't get over that Reid would make this statement at a Press Conference
and then totally change things. Why did the Senate ram through the Bill if Reid objected with l6 Democrats defecting. It's like Reid set himself up for failure and open to ridicule by saying one thing at a Presser and that night having his Senate go renegade on him.

I find it hard to believe that l6 Dems suddenly decided to change their vote at the last minute. Even if they were paid "under the table" or threatened...it would seem that Reid would have been aware that there were so many Dems voting against him. He could have pulled a Parliamentary move to stall the bill until the House passed their own version (the way it usually works) and not looked like an incompetent.

I'm always hearing on this Board what a great strategist Reid is. Yet, his actions seem to speak louder than his words with this FISA action.

And, now we have the House in total chaos with Repugs pulling stunt after stunt, this morning. Yet Reid said he'd keep the Senate in session...when in fact the Senate is GONE and it's all on Pelosi's back to do something about this mess.
