People please. I re-joined DU after the 2004 elections because I wanted to join together with people to oppose the Bush administration. To elect Democrats in the general election and to nominate progressive Democrats in the primaries, and to watch, lobby, write and protest in between elections.

Too many here since 2006 seem ready to give up on those goals. They believe that electing Democrats is pointless. Even after 2000, they still cannot see a dime's worth of difference, and are ready to pull the same sh*t that got us where we are today. Apparently voting third party is going to accomplish more than nominating progressive Democrats in the primary.

Too many here want us to sing the song of the Crows, to feel that there is nothing in the past but a string of losses and nothing to be expected from the future but more of the same.

We cannot get out of the game, and we certainly can't win with discouragement and despair. Let's think of things we want to do and can do.

Congress is going on vacation? Or are they going home? How many of us will make a point to visit their offices? Can we be encouraged to mobilize for 2008? I know that there's alot of work that could be done. At the county level here we are way short of precinct people and volunteers/activists.

2. 99.9% of the anger you see is born out of frustration

we've had more than enough. we've been waiting for change, hoping for change and voted for change. However, all we are getting is more of the same, and there is fear (and anger) that no matter who gets into the oval office in '08 it will continue to be more of the same

We have glimmers of sunlight when we see a dem fighting back, standing up and speaking out, then within a matter of minutes they sit down, shut up and issue an apology

our federal budget is raided for bridges to nowhere while bridges to somewhere crumble beneath us - and this is a very real metaphor for the entire country and issue surrounding us.

The free press is not free - it has been enslaved and is toiling for it's corporate masters.

It's been asked "WHERE'S THE OUTRAGE" - the outrage is there, it just doesn't have anyplace to go. THERE ARE NO LEADERS. There are flag wavers, there are candidates standing on soap boxes - but not one of them is the leader we need.

candidates for '08 will not only be judged by their words, but also that of the actions and inactions of their party affiliation in congress and the white house. Judging from the comments I've heard and read, I wouldn't be surprised to see a ground swell of support for a 3rd party candidate emerge next year - ala Perot.

5. If you are right, there isn't much I can do

If you are right, or wrong, another 5,000 votes for a 3rd party aren't gonna do much, except maybe make elections easier to steal, or, in my view, tip close elections to the Republicans.

4. I know where you're coming from, and I feel ambivalent about it

Many of us, including me, are terribly disappointed that there has been no move to impeach these thugs. I personally cannot understand it. And to think that a large number of Dems voted for something like the Military Commissions Act is terribly disheartening. I have even started to wonder whether or not many of our Democratic Congresspersons are being blackmailed or threatened into going easy on this administration.

But you're right -- the Democrats are the only alternative at this time, and there IS quite a difference between the two parties. And therefore we should support them.
