Senate passes Bush-backed spy bill

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Democratic-led U.S. Senate, amid warnings of further attacks on the United States, approved a bill on Friday which will allow President George W. Bush to maintain his controversial domestic spying program.

On a vote of 60-28, the Senate sent the measure to the Democratic-led U.S. House of Representatives for consideration as early as Saturday as lawmakers push to begin a monthlong recess.

Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell said earlier he needed the legislation "in order to protect the nation from attacks that are being planned today to inflict mass casualties on the United States."

7. Why are they doing what * says?
Just because he says he "wants" something, doesn't mean Congress has to supply it when he demands it, right?

Looking for a list of the traitor Dems that voted FOR this.

Anybody find one, please post it.

Our country is toast!

18. They caved in because Bush told them to.
Just because they can't go on fucking vacation. The point is not the legal particulars. The point is that the legislature has given up its primacy.

This is how dictatorships start, not with a dramatic coup d' etat but by giving up legislative power little by little.

After all the abuses of the passed seven years and of Gonzo in particular, to give Dumbass more power rather than taking it away is nothing more than and abdication of Congressional primacy.

How will we know when it stops being just a right wing government and starts being a dictatorship? Well, it happened right now. Bush is never going to step down. He will make up an excuse to stay. And even if he does, whoever comes next will be just as abusive.

Hail Caesar!
