1. You make too much sense.
Therefore it's a bad idea.

Sell it for $40, and we can retire the national debt.

3. Good idea, but we could also halve the defense budget with little effect.
That way we could charge $10 a pack! :headbang:

4. At $20/pack you'd be realizing taxes of about 50%
because the only thing holding the price of pot up is its illegality.

Not only that, but the average head will go through a pack a month, usually on weekends, and that's sharing with friends. I'm afraid the sales won't be high enough (pun unintended) to fund much of anything but the regulation and taxation, itself.

However, getting all nonviolent drug offenders out of prison would help. In fact, release all people convicted of victimless crimes by the nanny state. The very term "victimless crime" is an oxymoron.

5. That is about as dumb as financing healthcare by taxing cigarettes
smoking of *anything*is declining, and that is a good thing. Basing necessary infrastructure funding on sin taxes (which is what you are suggesting), means as its use wanes, the funds have to come from some where else.

We need to be honest and place required items on a solid funding base. Sin taxes is not solid.

7. People would grow their own, probably - and no way it ...
... would go for just $20 a 'pack'.
