Keith Olbermann defends BillO on "Countdown" (and then names him "Worst Person")
Daily Kos: Keith Olbermann defends BillO on Countdown
by hungrycoyote
Thu Aug 02, 2007

The teasers tonight have been good. Keith Olbermann says he is going to defend BillO on Countdown. And the winner is:

"Runner up, with great regret, blogger Mike Stark, who went to the home of Bill O'Reilly as a surprise and posted signs around his neighborhood reading, 'Bill O'Reilly, Pervert,' and video taped it and posted the video tape online. Mr. Stark is the man to whom O'Reilly threatened to sic Fox Security and send him a little surprise at his home.

But, no. Not acceptable. Whatever you think of him, whatever threats he's made, whatever threat he represents, whether or not he would happily go to your home or his sheep would happily come to mine, no matter how he has had his employees stalk politicians or newspaper reporters there is a line and the good guys are not supposed to cross it. Same if it's Ann Coulter, same if it's Melanie Morgan, same if it's Rush Limbaugh. Leave them alone in private. In public ..."

...Mike didn't win, he was runner-up, and so I think it is only appropriate that I include the winner as well:

"Our Winner: BillO, explaining his stance on immigration reform, and remember that is code for we don't like Mexican people. So BillO says, 'Most Americans don't want to hurt any poor Mexican people. They want to know who they are. They want to know where they are; what they're doing. They don't want them clustering in neighborhoods and changing the tempo of the whole neighborhood.'

You know, the same way the anti-immigrant bigots didn't want my immigrant German ancestors changing the tempo of the whole neighborhood in 1900. The same way anti-immigrant bigots didn't want Bill's immigrant Irish ancestors changing the tempo of the whole neighborhood in 1950.

BILL O'REILLY ... TODAY'S WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD!"

3. I think Keith's point was that Billo was following in a shameful tradition
of bigoted Americans complaining about immigrants, when the truth is, unless they're of 100% Native blood, their own people were once immigrants too.

And that each group of Americans had stupid prejudices against various ethnic groups it thought were going to take over and "ruin" America.

4. I don't agree with Keith putting Mike Stark on his list.
Keith doesn’t think it’s fair to invade Mr. O’Reilly’s neighborhood and tell the truth about him. I understand that. I even sympathize with him. Keith is afraid O’Reilly’s minions will invade his privacy. Were I in his place I might feel the same.

But this involves more than just Bill and Keith. Bill O’Reilly comes into our neighborhoods and into our communities every day and every night spreading his lies. He tells all who will listen that Liberals and Democrats hate America and our brave fighting men and women. He tries to incite our neighbors against us and he tries to divide this country.

While I would agree with Keith if circumstances were different, sadly I cannot. You see Bill O’Reilly does not follow the rules of engagement. It’s really only one simple rule. “Tell the truth.” Don’t lie, don’t spin and don’t try to pass off you opinions as if you were Moses coming down from Mt. Sinai. If Bill O’Reilly doesn’t like his neighborhood being disturbed then he should follow this simple rule. To sum it up, we’ll stop telling the truth about Bill when he stops telling lies about us.

Keep up the good work Mike. You did the right thing.

5. That is what I call fair and balanced....
Attacking Billo for being a racist, bigot and attacking a man that is harassing BillO in private.
Would Faux News do the same if someone was targetting KO's house, sending him hate mail, white powder? No.

6. Yes, Keith and No, Keith
On the surface what Mike Stark did was "over the top". If you weren't aware of the premise of Stark's visit...and a vast majority of the people who saw the ambush didn't...it very much looks that way. Mike could have taken a different tact here in going after O'Reilly...like at the entrance of the Faux den of inquity or at some public function (O'Asshat's puppy did ambush the Jet Blue President in front of his office, not his home). People seeing that, no matter how they feel about O'Asshat, see this as an invasion of personal space and privacy.
