Are we just watching the end of the constitution
as supreme law of the land? I haven't seen much evidence to the contrary, just a few bits and pieces that might still exist. How many years have we been going without one and how many more years do we have to go if it is to be in working force again?

1. I think they already shredded it
It was done in secret just like everything the regime has done for 6 1/2 years

2. Yes - who is defending it?
Congress - No
Supreme Court - No
Is anyone listening to the people who care?

In addition, privatization has sold the business of government to bribery

11. It was the people that allowed it to be destroyed..........that is
Americans set on their hands while the right wing media fed the public propaganda while the Republican controlled congress and the Karl Rove robot took away our rights..Now little by little this new Congress is trying to restore our liberties while the slightest failures because of Republican political maneuvering suddenly is the fault of the Democrats according to the same media that fed us all that propaganda for the last six years..It might not have been shredded yet but we better make damn sure we have a Democrat is the White House in 2008 or it will be.

And the history books will be rewritten to tell our descendents that it wasn't all that great anyway.

piece of paper. People will say the most revealing things when they are comfortable being candid with you.

19. Is it inevitable? How long did the Roman Republic last before the empire?
Plus, it seemed that the Roman populace was happy to let the Big Boys play their games so long as the bread and circuses kept coming.

24. 450 years for the Roman Republic. Beat us by 250 n/t

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Republic

The republican period began with the overthrow of the Monarchy c.509 BC and lasted over 450 years until its subversion, through a series of civil wars, into the Principate form of government and the Imperial period. The precise event which signaled the transition of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire is a matter of interpretation. Historians have proposed the appointment of Julius Caesar as perpetual dictator (44 BC), the Battle of Actium (2 September 31 BC), and the Roman Senate's grant of Octavian's extraordinary powers under the first settlement (January 16, 27 BC), as candidates for the defining pivotal event.

21. Letter sent on Impeachment
After seeing the hearings today, I sent the following letter to all my people in Congress:

Dear Senator Webb, Senator Warner, Representative Goodlatte,

My husband and I are constituents who are well educated and closely attuned to the current events of our nation. We have become extremely upset about the posturing of the executive branch as regards the DOJ and other issues. When watching the hearings where Gonzales testified and today when Jennings thumbed his nose at Congressional Oversight, we have come to the sad conclusion that the only way to right the tsunami of wrongs done by this executive branch to the American people is to seek impeachment of them.
At first, we discounted this venue as a waste of time and money, but the facts are that Bush, et al, have committed serious crimes against the Constitution and should be held accountable before there is no Constitution to be protected. The situation is extremely serioius, and we urge you to move in the direction of impeachment and encourage other Senators and Reps to do the same. Our tax dollars are being wasted onb war, our Constitution is being shredded, and the Bill of Rights has sustained damaging "direct hits". We cannot afford to wait for attrition to solve this serious national problem. And, this may help to save the Republican Party!

Though DEFINITELY NOT A REPUBLICAN, I threw in the last sentence because two of my reps are!
