I got the solution for the infrastructure problem...
Pull the troops from Iraq and Afghanistan and let them deal with their own problems!

Divert 90% of the monies from the DoD budget to the infrastructure. Create jobs! Problem solved!

No Halliburton or its subsidies allowed - only local contractors!

Of course, if the contractors outsources the jobs to India....

1. Fuck the contractors. Just start a public works program like FDR's WPA program
For example, if a new bridge needs to be built, the federal government itself will open up a labor office in the nearest town. People who wish to apply for construction/administrative jobs associated with the building of the bridge can apply at that office. Once hired, administrators will marshal the workers, organize them, and get them building the bridge. It cuts out the middle man, and it pumps money directly into the local economy.

6. We're so far from ever doing anything like that, and it's making me really fed up with politics.
You have a great idea here, and our nation's political dialogue should be focused on the best way of implementing it. But since the Republicans only represent the "have-mores" and the Congressional Democrats are the organizational embodiment of risk-aversion, we're not going to have this discussion on a national scale any time this decade.

Frankly, it's because of this that I don't really give too much of a rat's ass if Bush gets impeached or not. Even if the Democrats were to win the long catfight and kick Bush out of the White House, the replacement for the Decider's antics would be a bunch of 4 month long committee meetings where they figure out whether to scratch their left or right ass-cheek.

And it's making lose patience with the Left too. Fuck all this "truth to power" bullshit. Gimme government programs that create jobs by having people build wind farms.
