First-Ever National State-by-State Study of Drive-By Shootings

http://www.gunguys.com/

The Violence Policy Center released a “first-of-its kind national analysis of drive-by shootings” called “Drive-By America.”

Findings of the study include:

During the six-month period covered in the report, 549 drive-by shooting incidents were reported, claiming 156 lives and injuring 465 individuals.

California led the nation in the number of drive-by shootings with 115 shootings, killing 51 and injuring 123. Following California were: Florida, 57 drive-by shootings, killing 18 and injuring 47; Texas, 56 drive-by shootings, killing seven and injuring 41; Illinois, 24 drive-by shootings, killing 11 and injuring 29; and, Ohio, 20 drive-by shootings, killing three and injuring 20.

Nearly a quarter (23 percent) of those killed or injured were under the age of 18.

1. There's something wrong with the pdf list.
It just can't be correct, imho.

They list only 7 drive bys for MA. and I know that's wrong.

It's way off!! http://www.vpc.org/studies/driveby.pdf

It's just that everyday it's on the news that someone was shot and killed.
Sometimes 2 & 3 people at a time. :(

2. California, Florida--what is it about the citrus industry that provokes such wanton slaughter?

4. I read a quirky report
that stated people with apple breath are more trustworthy than people with citrus breath.

6. I'm not sure about California, but Florida has a Department of Citrus.
In state government. No lie.

3. Suspend their drivers license.
One mayors solution to firearms related violence just might have other unforeseen benefits... no DL + no gun + no vehicle = no drive-bys.

Yep... that'll work...

Mayor eyes new curb on gun-law violators
Would suspend driving rights

By Donovan Slack, Globe Staff | January 8, 2007

Mayor Thomas M. Menino wants the state to suspend driver's licenses and revoke the vehicle registrations of individuals convicted of firearms violations in Massachusetts and to list the charges on driving records
available to police during traffic stops.

In a measure he plans to introduce today on Beacon Hill, the mayor is proposing that licenses be suspended and registrations revoked, without a hearing, for up to five years for crimes such as illegal possession of a gun or selling guns without a license. Menino administration officials say such a law could help stem gun crimes and warn police pulling over cars that the drivers may be carrying guns. Authorities have said many of those arrested for firearms offenses are repeat offenders.

:eyes:

5. Menino is an idiot.
He's the one who single-handedly got Boston all worked up over the "terrorist bombs" that were really Aqua Teen Hunger Force signs.

7. No he didn't. It was the press that did that!
But I think he handled it quite well.

They (the company) paid. ;)

8. Was it also the press...
That wanted to keep the movie from playing in Boston theaters?...

"I’m not saying we are banning the movie, because I can’t ban it, but out of respect to the people of Boston, I am going to ask local movie theater executives not to. They are not deserving of our respect."

"Mumbles" doesn't need the help of the press to make him look like a buffoon... he does a pretty good job of it all by himself.

9. That wasn't the topic of my or your original comment.
Possibly (as I don't remember all the details) they were still negotiating settlement.

The movie played anyways, as far as I know.
