Question about newest Executive Order...........
could it, in any way, be construed that any media corporation reporting on news coming out of Iraq, that is NON-positive to the administration, can have their assets seized?? If so, that is the most chilling idea to come from this idiotic EO. It would obviously be the complete end of ALL news coming from the area.....we would be left with only propaganda.
And, before any remind me, I know that is mostly what we get now, but we do still get a trickle of the truth.
And what about bloggers? Same threat??
Boy, this is really scary.:scared:

1. For sure this is scary. How far the Cheney Gov't will push it is unknown.
But since their governance is modelled on tyrants and dictators we should have some pretty good guesses.

2. That might explain the lack of Iraq reporting of late...
ON CNN, ABC, AP...etc...

4. I am wondering the same thing! Yesterday I posted the following
(link) to an article "30 Days to Tyranny" in OpEd News. I posted this to get readers to contact their congress critters to overturn this lastest and yet un-numbered executive order (to my knowledge). I have great anxiety as to what the EO could curtail....free speech, e.g.

5. Why kill the happy talk messenger?
Good point, and I've wondered that myself. But I don't see a lot of advantage in messing with the reporters and media institutions who have kept BushCo largely immune from the consequences of its own actions. Besides, if facts are important, it's far better to get your news from just about any outlet that isn't based in America -- or owned by Murdoch.

Also, I doubt they want to mess with mass media's corporate kingpins, who probably know a thing or three about the facts behind various BushCo official stories and would certainly make it clear that, since they created BushCo, they could just as easily destroy it.

Individual reporters and editors/producers might be disciplined in-house for allowing an unvarnished fact to slip out, but I doubt they'd let the feds do much. Besides, there's that sacred first amendment right to a free press at stake here -- ooops, forgot -- that's sooooooo 20th century.

As to bloggers, I think as long as we stay at our keyboards and off the streets, we're contained and controlled. If we start advocating for violent revolution, kidnappings of CEOs, political assassinations -- at least one of which is dear to my heart -- then it's likely the gloves would come off and asset seizure would be one of the measures used to intimidate the rest of the anti-BushCo datastream.

Finally, would they do it? Sure; they're capable of anything except the normal range of human emotion, just like all pure sociopaths.

6. Yes to all.
If you read the text of the executive order, you will see that such determination is entirely up to Bush.
Since the media is so easily cowed and bought, other targets are more likely, such as the anti-war movement.
SOMEBODY (but who? who?) needs to hold the administration accountable, or do the equivalent of die trying.

Thankfully, the Democrats are doing everything exactly right!

7. The truly scary part
is that only the Executive branch has the authority to interpret that Order. So it can mean "whatever the hell they want it to mean."

8. what is even scarier is the congressional democrats apparent lack of concern....
have read anything that indicates any congressional democrats are even aware of this excec order or are planning to do anything to counter act it, if in fact anything can be done.

9. oh for shame
Surely the Democrats have a secret plan to oppose this further shredding of the Fourth Amendment. I'm not sure what it is, but apparently it's not the threat of impeachment.

10. Who knows. The only thing I know for sure is, they will use it when
they need it, and will, (in their minds) justify it.
