A thought about the Gonzalez hearing today
I just watched the replay on CSPAN of the hearing. I followed it on the DU threads today, but noticed something tonight that I don't think anyone else mentioned. For all the times AGAG was told that his credibility was shot, that he wasn't trusted, that he deceived the committee, etc., he never reacted as an honorable person would have reacted. He never challenged those statements, apologized for giving a wrong impression, or even went on the defensive about his trustworthiness. He just accepted that people thought he was a liar as a matter of fact. No big deal; nothing to bother about.

1. It's exactly that to him...no big deal. He's a made man. The Family has his back.

11. That's a given, but...
...not exactly what I was trying to get at. We've had discussion about what kind of people these are, and I thought, like the dog in the story that didn't bark, his lack of a response to being called a liar was very revealing. There was no indication of enough of a belief in his own decency to take exception to the accusations. Maybe after you've sold your soul, you forget you ever had one.

2. I was watching for shame
And I watched the two sitting directly behind him for some twinge of humanity. All that I saw was that the fellow behind him on our right had his head tilted down while Leahy was making his closing statement about trust. The other guy was as hard-faced as a brick wall. Gonzales, of course, has rewards coming for being emotionless.

4. It's the same reaction a vile monster serial killer has as
he leaves the courtroom while the families of the victims hurl insults.

5. I noticed that, too.
If a bunch of big-shot senators were shitting in MY cornflakes like that, I'd be furious and outraged and I'd strenuously take issue with being called an incompetent, untrustworthy liar. But Gonzo just sat there, smirking a bit, never getting his hackles up like you'd expect.

He knows he's a lying sack of shit, and he doesn't care. He's gotten away with it so far, and he expects to keep getting away with it.

6. Yep - I noted that as well. Stepford Gonzo.
But is this new for this bunch? They act as if they are above the law, they show no regard for it....everyone gets outraged, there are hearings...we blog it all day long - but there they all still are. Nothing happens.

so, either Gonzo is feeling quite covered by the teflon coating, or he does have a shred of dignity as a person, but realizes that he hooked his cart to a bunch of losers...dangerous ones.

My vote is for the former. Just can't give him a millimeter of credit for any humanity at all, after watching that performance. If I were Schumer, I would have lept out of my seat and strangled Gonzo. and Leahy was smoldering at the end.

But - again - will anything come of this? we are having our own boy who cried wolf syndrome - expecting anything to change!

7. He doesn't care because he thinks or knows he won't be held accountable
and he is probably hand picking the judicial slot he has dreamed of ...or someone has lined him up some great cushy corporate positions...and that is only if he has to resign...and I bet he won't.

12. At the end, after Leahy had chastised him and said he had no credibility
And then asked Gonzo if he had anything he wanted to say or add, Gonzo looked almost ready to cry and said, "No."

And all the while that Gonzo sat almost stone-faced while Leahy addressed him, I kept getting a clear vision of the AG fearing the wrath of Darth after this was all over, and somehow got the impression that he would have to go face the Halliburton Man and Rover to figure out what to do next in this mess.

I think his "near tears" had more to do with his ass being grass to Cheney, than anything to do with the fact that he, "Gonzo the Inept" has no fucking clue about the cabinet position of USAG, or having no credibility.
