I want the same health care as Bush
I had to have surgery for an inguinal hernia. It's common in men of middle age like me.

I've got health insurance. Still, it cost us over $1200 in out of pocket expenses.

I was out of work for two weeks. I didn't get paid anything for the lost work. Mrs. D lost time in her job to help me out during my recovery.

Bush and Congress, no problem. Paid in full.

I'm supposed to have a colonoscopy. I've got health insurance. It will still cost us a buttload of money. Mrs D needs one, too. Same deal.

Bush had his colonoscopy performed for free. At Camp David. His Presidential retreat.

Is 'asshole' the proper term here for a privileged jerk who has no copays and wants to 'stick it' to the rest of us?

Why shouldn't all of us, especially our war veterans, have the same health care benefits as George W. Bush?

Everyone in the world now knows that Bush has had five polyps removed from his colon. Yet, my wife and I can't afford to know if we have any.

Universal Health Care NOW.

2. Thank you! That's the way I feel too.
Remove Bush. Then send him somewhere and run tests to see why he's so cancerous to civil rights and liberties.

3. response to health care issue
Very well said. I would like to have as good health care coverage as Bush too. My employer pays more than I do for my health care but I still have crappy coverage. I had better insurance but the prices went sky high for the good plan so since everyone in my family had been healthy I went with a cheaper plan. Of course after that my husband needed surgery for kidney stones and also found out he has diabetes. The cost of just the test strips alone in a burden even with drug coverage and the last time he had blood work it was over $100 with insurance. Every check up there is the co-pay and I can hardly imagine how bad it would be without any kind of insurance. His hospital bill for surgery was well over $5000.00 for everything the insurance would not cover.

5. Welcome to DU.
Thanks for sharing your story.

You make an excellent point about employers -- they are getting clobbered by the always rising costs to try to continue covering their employees.

Employers should also support universal health care. It will save them money, too.

8. What got me, besides the facts you mention, is that * got a
house call! Now that's going back in time. Can you imagine what all had to be hauled to Camp David by the medical people? Ridiculous. I suppose they didn't want * exposed to the germs the rest of us have to put up with lurking in hospitals. Yep. He's a king.

10. Yeah,
I can only imagine getting the best possible health care on the entire planet in the secure confines of the Presidential retreat while simultaneously working to make sure everyone else doesn't get any of it.

King George has it pretty damn good. We don't.

11. Good point about Barney
He's better off than most Americans in terms of health care.

Michelle and I are fine; we just can't afford to have someone discover / remove our colon polyps at our vacation retreat, seeing as how we don't have a vacation retreat nor free health care.

:)

15. I'd like to have the same drugs as Bush
They must be pretty good, as he always has that overjoyed, sanguine look, even when discussing death and destruction.

16. Hubby- kidney failure, us- bankruptcy and poverty
Welcome to Amerika, where, if you have ESRD (End-Stage Renal Disease) you are either very rich, or live at poverty level. Ok, he has Medicare and Medicaid, which help, but we went broke before he qualified for disability. See, the gov. doesn't think those who are going into kidney failure are disabled; only when a patient is actually getting ready to go on dialysis are they considered "disabled".

Before I figured out how the system worked, we had a $700/month share-of-cost (California's low-income "CMSP"), while we tried to make it on my $10/hour-no-benefits job. Now he is covered by Medicaid, but I still have a $280/month share-of-cost, which comes out of his $1238 disability check. You can bet I don't go to the doctor except when I have to. I need a cholesterol test, but I can't get it until I re-qualify for the stupid medical program, and even then I will have to pay for it out of pocket.
