Christian Zionists: Ahmadinejad is new Hitler; call on US to attack Iran immediately
WASHINGTON - Thousands of members of Christians United for Israel headed to Capitol Hill on Wednesday to lobby Congress on behalf of the Jewish state.

The group's founder, the Reverend John Hagee, declared, "We support Israel because we are Bible-believing Christians," and said the world needs to see that "the sleeping giant of Christian Zionism has awakened."

Hagee said that the entire Christian world kept quiet during World War II and allowed the genocide of the Jewish people. "This time we will not be silent," Hagee said.

At "A Night to Honor Israel" banquet, Hagee called on President Bush to move the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. He also called for American divestment from Iran, which he compared to Nazi Germany as a threat to the Jewish people.

13. look at their leaders (note: he was a pres. contender)
Bush's Big One
Steve Forbes 07.23.07, 12:00 AM ET

George W. Bush's presidential legacy will ultimately depend on a decision he has yet to make: Iran. Even European skeptics can no longer doubt that Iran's regime is working toward producing nuclear weapons. Sure, Iran has had setbacks, but it's pouring every possible resource into bringing this project to fruition. It's only a question of time. Most experts now say the country will have nuclear capability within one to three years.

If President Bush doesn't stop the mullahs, or if he leaves the problem to his successor, his presidency will be judged a failure. He'll get points for recognizing the need to combat Islamic fanaticism, but the verdict will be one of failure because he lacked the necessary political and executive skills to prosecute the war on terrorism effectively, successfully.

Clearly, diplomacy alone won't work. The Iranians are playing for time. But their economy, a wreck, is highly vulnerable to pressure. Unemployment is high. The mullahs have even mismanaged the oil sector--output would be some 2 million barrels a day higher if the industry had been properly managed and requisite investments made. And now the government has imposed gasoline rationing.

So what should the President do now?

8. Ahmadinejad is far more a Mussolini than a Hitler
He's just a narcissistic little twit who wants attention. He is currently about as unpopular in Iran as Bush is here. The only thing that may get him re-elected in 2009 is the looming threat of US invasion.

Hopefully a Democrat will be elected in '08 and Ahmadinejad will get tossed out as well so that civilized leaders can sit down and discuss our problems.

10. McCain was there to pander to these nuts. Of course.
McCain warns against leaving Iraq

By Associated Press | July 18, 2007

WASHINGTON -- Republican presidential hopeful John McCain told Christian evangelical supporters of Israel yesterday that withdrawing troops from Iraq now would be "one of the most catastrophic and consequential disasters for this nation."

A strong war supporter, McCain said backing the Democratic-sponsored measure and withdrawing would be to "declare defeat and allow Al Qaeda to obtain victory." Staying and stabilizing Iraq could help ensure the safety of Israel and the Middle East, he said, winning loud applause.

McCain said he is worried that "mismanagement of the conflict after our initial victory" in Iraq has helped strengthen US enemies.

"The Iranians were emboldened, the Syrians were emboldened, the North Koreans were emboldened," McCain said.

Christians United for Israel, led by Texas televangelist John Hagee, was formed a year ago by pastors who believe the Bible instructs Christians to protect Israel. Several thousand members are meeting in Washington this week to lobby Congress.

Despite McCain's sometimes tense relationship with evangelicals, his speech won frequent applause and several standing ovations.

24. See, this is part of the problem:
Christians United for Israel, led by Texas televangelist John Hagee, was formed a year ago by pastors who believe the Bible instructs Christians to protect Israel.

Why doesn't the article go on to say the real truth - that these jackasses want to protect Israel because they think that Israel has to be around until Christ returns, then THEY get to convert Jews or kill them all before they get to float up in the middle of the air? If the author, or the editor, had just told the entire story about this group, it would be obvious to anyone reading that these people are nutcase psychopaths. Instead, they come across as a benevolent society.

16. Maybe 15 years ago I was waiting to get on the same plane as Hagee
He was already a well known local nut as opposed to the international nut he is now. I saw him there and I think my face reflected the utterly complete contempt I felt for that man at that point in time. He just saw me, got a weird look on his face and looked away.

17. As opposed to non-Bible believing Christians?
I hate it when Fundamentalist whip that stuff out. I've known people who were asked if they went to church, told the person yes, and then were asked "yes, but is it a BIBLE BELIEVING church."

Like I have to justify my choice of church to them. Like I'm a second-hand Christian or something. I can imagine what some of them would say if they knew I went to a church full of LIBERALS! The horror, the HORROR.

Bleck.

18.  Speakers at the group's second national conference include Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.)
http://www.jta.org/cgi-bin/iowa/breaking/103079.html

More than 4,000 people at a conference of Christians United for Israel will lobby for a U.S. law aimed at isolating Iran.

Delegates from all 50 U.S. states will push the Iran Counter Proliferation Act, which reduces the president's ability to waive existing sanctions against Iran and sanctions third-party countries and companies dealing with the Islamic Republic. The sanctions are aimed at forcing Iran to suspend its suspected nuclear weapons program.

Delegates, who will visit Congress on Wednesday after two days of briefings, also will lobby Congress for military assistance to Israel and to call attention to Hezbollah's failure to abide by agreements to disarm after last year's war against Israel.

Speakers at the group's second national conference include the group's founder, Pastor John Hagee, Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) and former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Newt Gingrich, a probable candidate for the Republican nomination for the presidency.

Hagee said that while his group might not agree with Israel's recent concessions to the Palestinians, it was not its place to oppose the concessions. "We are supportive of Israel, even if they make decisions that are contrary to what we believe are in their best interests," he said.

Frank Gaffney, president of the private Center for Security Policy, said, ``The Islamic fascists have Israel in mind as an appetizer. We are the main course.''

And Robert Satloff, executive director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, speaking about Iran, said Israel is the immediate target of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the United States is the long-term target.

Maybe their reputation is down a bit since they didn't utterly invade Lebanonn last year. Still they could beat most of the middle east into a smoking, bloody pulp if they wanted.

20. Most Christians support Israel AND Palestine, oppose Iran war: NCC leaders
<snip>

"As Pastor John Hagee prepares for his annual Christians United for Israel (CUFI) gathering this week in Washington, D.C., two leaders of the National Council of Churches USA (NCC) are reminding observers that most Christians do not share CUFI's stated goals.

"John Hagee's message differs greatly with what theologians have taught for centuries," said Dr. Antonios Kireopoulos, NCC's Associated General Secretary for International Affairs and Peace.

"The Christian Gospel is clear that salvation came through the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ," said Dr. Kireopoulos. "To supplement this message is to pervert the Gospel Hagee claims to preach."

Pastor Hagee's efforts are the latest in a century old apocalyptic movement that began in earnest in the 19th century. Sometimes called Christian Zionism because of its uncritical support for the State of Israel, it is based on a literal reading of Biblical apocalyptic texts.

CUFI's position of uncritical support for Israel separates it from the Anglican, Catholic, Orthodox, and traditional Protestant Churches, all of whom support Israel while at the same time advocate for a Palestinian state, Kireopoulos said.

The NCC advocates for a two-state solution, with a secure Israel alongside a viable Palestinian state. The NCC position, approved by the NCC's 35 member denominations, is based on the Christian imperative to seek justice for all people. The NCC has stated the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territories is unsupportable. This position is shared by Churches worldwide, and is counter to the position espoused by CUFI.

"Only a just solution will bring peace to the Middle East," said Kireopoulos. "CUFI stands apart from the historic Churches still present in the Holy Land. All of these Churches serve Palestinian Christians, who are adversely affected by the policies supported by Hagee and CUFI. As a result of these policies, Christian communities in the Holy Land are diminishing and are threatened with extinction."
