McCain on the Senate floor: Iraq's oil is very important to the American people
<paraphrasing here>

One of McCain arguments against "retreating" was how important it is for the American people for the third largest oil reserve (Iraq) to be modernized and under the control of...

2. I heard that; he prefaced it with how it's not discussed much on the floor.
Maybe it should be discussed a lot more; that IS the elephant in the room.

6. Except that Americans won't 'get' Iraq's oil...
The multi-national oil companies will, and somehow, I don't think they have America's best interests at heart.

9. You got that right
You think their record-breaking profits from last year are going to make them feel like sharing the largesse with the peons? Oh how droll. We're gonna pay and pay big for the oil they stole.

12. McLame is on verge of telling the truth.
We know why the US Occupation will continue. Until the Oil Flow is secured Iraq will remain under the US Govt's boot. After the Oil Deal is signed, sealed and delivered, the US Troops and Mercs will remain to defend that Oil Flow.

7. now we are getting somewhere
I have said forever that we can't have a legitimate discussion about the war, whoops occupation until we (meaning the rethugs) admit openly and truthfully that it is all about the oil.

Me, I am anti-war, and believe that Iraq's oil belongs to Iraq's people.

13. how incredibly stupid.
Our men and women have been sacrificing their health and lives in a pointless war and we're getting gouged on gas prices while the oil companies make record profits and he's insane enough to say we need to stick around for more?

17. His bid for the presidency is officially Over
I knew McCain was going to start spewing stuff that would incriminate his own best inter in his candidacy, even though he is broke, he hasn't officially announced that he has stuck a fork in himself. Well, it is safe to say he cannot say these things and expect to run on the truth, not as a republican. That just won't fly. A maverick till the end.

19. CJCrane: Iraq's oil is very important to Bushco's buddies.
By keeping Iraq in a state of managed chaos (and soon to be the same in Iran) this reduces the flow of oil and keeps prices high. This benefits...I think you know who.

21. Iraq's oil is more important to the Iraqi people, under whose land it
happens to reside. We have destroyed their country; we must not rob them of their oil. That would be the nadir of American dishonorability.
