Dear Madame Speaker Pelosi,
Speaking woman to woman, mother to mother, and grandmother to grandmother, I must tell you that I think you made a huge mistake in declaring early in your term as Speaker of the House that impeachment is off the table. It was a huge, but honest mistake on your part in my opinion. Please, please, please reconsider!! The future of our country depends on it. The separation of powers exists to preserve our freedoms. President Bush and VP Cheney have done everything they can to consolidate power in the executive branch. They have no respect for the constitution they swore to uphold or, for the American people. They have committed high crimes and misdemeanors.
We need to make them accountable so future presidents understand that they cannot be dictators; they are OUR public servants, not the other way around; and that the executive branch is a co-equal branch of government subject to checks and balances. We are depending on you to rise above politics and personal self interest and display the God-given courage and humility it would take to put impeachment back on the table. You could leave no greater legacy than leading the charge to save our democracy. An infinity of 9/11's are not worth the loss of our democracy. Our democracy has been a beacon of light in this world. But George Bush's responses to 9/11 have been cloaked in secrecy and lies for his own personal benefit. The only legacy he can look forward to is shame and dishonor. Please don't let his legacy tarnish our democracy.
Thank you very much.
