Jul 15, 2007 — One of the suspects in the spray painting of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church says he's sorry and has written a letter of apology to the pastor.
“We made a mistake - a big mistake,” 18-year-old Aaron V. Criswell said Thursday at his North Hopewell Township home.
Criswell, a 2007 graduate of Red Lion Area High School, and Robert W. “Bobby” Smith III, 20, of no fixed address, have been charged with institutional vandalism and desecration of monuments. Charges are pending against a 17-year-old boy.
York Area Regional Police say the vandals spray painted “SK 4 ever,” “666” and other phrases, including a profane curse against God, on the white, Windsor Township church between 1 and 3 a.m. July 3.
York Area Regional and Pennsylvania State Police also continue to investigate a rash of other spray-paintings that happened during the Fourth of July week. It includes the desecration of the historic Guinston Presbyterian Church, which dates back to the 1700s.
