10-year-old Boy Sentenced For Beating Homeless Man
DAYTONA BEACH - A 10-year-old Daytona Beach boy convicted of beating a homeless man will be kept in a juvenile detention facility indefinitely, a judge ruled today.

The boy named Jordan is a risk to society and needs mental health counseling, Judge John Watson said this morning during the boy's sentencing hearing.

-snip-

The boy will be held at a juvenile facility indefinitely until he can be placed in a mental health residential program. Jordan was found guilty of aggravated battery in the attack on John D'Amico in March. Prosecutors say he, another 10-year-old, Drew, and their 17-year-old friend, Jeremy Woods, threw rocks at D'Amico, pushed him through a brick wall and smashed a cinderblock into the side of his face.

Why would somebody do something like this? Has our society really become so sick?

1. I am so happy they are going to spend some time in "jail"
What they did was bad, and yet some parents wanted them release to their parents.

8. released to their parents? my guess (and that's all it can be) is that
their parents probably need help too.

12. You're right - we can only guess...
but I suspect your guess is pretty accurate. This kid has a history of bullying behavior, and that's usually learned pretty close to home.

2. Beating a homeless man show a complete lack of compassion
Reminds me of the republicans.

9. yes, but if you add 10 plus 10 it comes to 20. But your point is a good one
that 17 year old was probably the leader and they the followers.

6. That's how it is when people are taught from early childhood
that some people are better than others, and that it's allowable to treat certain segments of society like crap. The "us and them" mentality gets ingrained and results in this type of behavior.

7. To some, the homeless are less than human.
They don't count. Remember the guy a few years back who taped homeless men beating the shit out of each other and then sold it as entertainment? Then, when he was called on his "Bum Fights" said he was trying to raise public awareness about homelessness? :eyes:
