A guy who was a teacher of mine when I was in training (he was a very well regarded doctor), when he finally retired out of the Army as a very senior Colonel, basically stepped out of his uniform into civilian clothes and left the uniform on his chair and walked out into the sunlight, I always found this hilarious.

Of course, this guy's story is a little more, um, poignant, or something, but I still find the details fascinating.
