Snickers ad...Another point of view
What if the ad showed two females accidentally kissing? Would the reaction be the same? Would two women have to do ultra feminine things to prove their womanhood? Would the NFL players reactions be the same?

What would your reactions to this had the ad shown two women instead of two men?

This shows the obvious bias against MALE gays. Since it is gay male sex that frightens them the most.

The reactions shown by the players do indeed influence.

Just my .02

1. I laughed out loud at that commercial
I just found it funny. Maybe, because so many guys are homophobic,

and it was played during The Super Bowl ( The Holy Grail of testosterone gone wild)

And 2 women accidentally kissing wouldn't even get eyes blinking.

funniest commercial and I laughed so hard...I guess the closet cases of the bi-curious nature probably got a secret hard-on over it...otherwise why the fuss?...

19. Because it was a fag joke used to sell candy.
If fag jokes are that acceptable then it's obviously okay to mock fags. And if it's okay to mock fags then how far is it to bullying fags?

35. I saw it as a breeder joke
a moment of raw homophobia. A moment so ambiguously gay that some painful
atonement was immediately required by all certified heteroboyz.

I first saw it on utube, but I can only imagine the rooms with a mixed audience.
The women laugh like fiends, not at the commercial, but at the frisson of
panic through the boys who hope no one was staring at them as they watched in horrified
fascination.

Having both witnessed and participated in such redneck sadomasochisticcryptohomoerotism,
I enjoy seeing the dial at twisted to 8, the fringe of hyperbole.

At 10, there would be a fast forward to them both doing an act on leatherman night in snickers logo bodysuits.
BUt then we'd have some audience members go catatonic.

3. Two Women Kissing
Two women kissing is the exception to the rule for homophobes.
Overly testosteroned men have a fantasy of having more than one women at the same time and so do some women. The the real hypocritical kicker is that most women do not want to see two men kissing especially when fantasizing about having more than one man at a time.

11. you have no idea what you're talking about
My best friend makes good money selling novels about men having sex to a mostly female audience. Just about every woman I know gets off on the idea of having two men in bed with her that are that open with their sexuality. Bi guys rock!

they will admit seeing two attractive men kiss is hot.

Sad that our country still seems as repressed and naive as ever when it comes to female sexuality.

13. Guilty as charged
I don't think I'm homophobic (my daughter is gay). Several years ago I was dating a woman and she told me that once when she was on an out of town trip, she found herself very strongly attracted to another woman. I'm not normally a jealous person, but I'm sure that if she'd said she was attracted to a man while away from me, I'd be at least a little bothered by that. Or at least bothered if she'd acted on that attraction.

But my first reaction was that it wouldn't have bothered me if she'd done something about it. I kind of shocked myself when I realized that her having a fling with a woman, while maybe not a turn on to me (not all straight guys fantasize about "menage a troises") it really wasn't a threat to me either. I suppose it has something to do about penises and the bred-in genetic imperative about propagating my line.

Or not maybe. I dunno. But I can tell you that while two women kissing is interesting, it's not always a turn on--just not a threatening visual the way two guys kissing can be. And actually, having had a lot of gay friends over the years, I really don't find two guys kissing to be all that offensive either.

Maybe I'm just weird that way.

40. overly testosteroned?
I don't know about overly testoteroned, but two women kissing is a turn on. So is two men, but not big fat, unattractive men, just as big fat, unattractive women kissing would not be a turn on for me either.

4. There's too much reading into the commercial
It's simply the old addage of "people will do anything out of lust for the product".

Look at beer commercials. People are depicted as being able to commit unspeakable acts of cruelty to other people just to get their hands on a freaking beer. And usually, it's the shitty beers too, like Budweiser.

42. "Football players...
recoiling at two men making lip contact"...Let's see...if you're around your fellow football players while watching this ad...how is one suppose to react...either he recoils in disgust or laughs at it/gets the humor of it or makes no comment or reaction...those that did recoil are probably the ones who have thought at one time or another of kissing another man, I'm sure...being around your fellow players while watching this ad..the obvious reaction for them is to recoil in disgust...they're in a homophobic environment/profession to begin with and no way are they gonna "out" themselves when money, big endorsements et al are at stake....To me this was an ad that made fun of homophobia...it's silly yet funny....shows "straight" men at their silliest..

20. Those commercials don't have the premise
that's it's horrible to even seem to be one of "them." This comercial is premised on the idea that being a fag is a bad, bad thing and therefore it's funny if people have to go to stupid extremes to avoid appearing to be gay.

36. I am not sure about that premise
I think the premise is that "some people" have the idea that it is bad to be gay, and those same people can get in awkward situations and do crazy stupid things. Just because a commercial shows a moment in the life of two guys does not mean that it posits a universal truths that everyone should or must believe, or will learn from the commercial. It is just a silly story about two stupid guys.

24. Riddle me this. The freepers were offended because they thought
it was pro-gay. The gay community considered it gay bashing. I do not think the intent was to offend either one. It was a stupid commercial that was not received well. I am certain the ad agency that created it has already been fired even before the company took down the offensive ads.

I am a huge Snickers fan and will continue to munch on them. They should have taken the $2.6 million dollars and put it into reducing the cost of the Snickers - then I could have bought more.

27. My point is..
When the topic is discussed, it is always from the male point of view. From gay marriage to this ad. There is also a population of Lesbians. The Fundamentalists consider the male on male sexual act an abomination, nothing is said so much about female on female.

Sodomy! Gay men kissing! The horror!

But two women kissing, erotic.

38. The ad was just awful, it has nothing to do with the male kissing male thing.
The ad was just gross and stereotypical in every way. I'm sure it appealed to the same people that watch, "My Name is Earl," which makes me shake my head. It just didn't appeal to the rest of us that don't 'ghet' redneck humor and are horrified that there are such uneducated redneck people in our country.

"nothing scares me more than a redneck with balls," I don't remember who said it but it sure is true.
