2. I thought it was nice and direct
As a poll should be.

Interesting that some voters are already saying we don't deserve equality.

Same rights, same protections, equality for all American citizens. Regardless of race, sexual orientation, gender, religion, ethnicity.... Regadless of everything. Equal rights.

7. This pisses the shit out of me
This should not be a question we should be asking in the year 2007.
My 65 year old mother knows the answer to this one.
Why can't you just enjoy your Constitutionally guaranteed right to pursue happiness...however you choose to do it?
Why do we have to decide which civil rights to give to groups?

Every goddess-blessed right "We, the People" have, dammit! It say's "We, the People". It does NOT say "We, the heterosexual People".

I know you didn't ask but I thought I'd do a one size fits all post cause I'm tired of politicians throwing groups under the bus because we've been divided into subsets rather than addressed as People, dammit!

Edited on Mon Feb-05-07 07:03 PM by mentalsolstice
Either we should all be married, or we should all be civilly united (for legal purposes) and then leave it to the individuals to define their relationship. Either way, equal rights for everyone. Whatever the state decides to call it, the terminology should be the same for heterosexuals and LGBT citizens.

39. I voted for marriage equality.
:hi:
The straight, white, male Judeo-Christians of this country are merely asserting their fleeting dominance with all of this civil union bullshit.

They are afraid because they are no longer the majority in the US. They are desperately clinging to "yesterday" and years gone by when they had laws to protect them in their oppression of others. They are trying to force an entire group of HUMAN BEINGS back in the closet by denying them rights, to comfort themselves in their believed birthright--"dominance and 'deciders' of all."

I remain unimpressed with any of the presidential candidates at this time. To gain my vote they need to stop all this "state's rights" bullshit and get behind doing what's right for human beings, regardless of sexuality. State's rights and civil unions are passing the buck. Passing the buck is bullshit. They don't have to "believe in" or "agree with" gay marriage to support equality. I know I'm preaching to the choir here--but damn, this really upsets me.

Who the hell are they to deny PEOPLE rights?

49. Can someone please
give me the definition of both "Marriage" and "Civil Unions"?

Long ago in a not so far away land, I was "married" by a judge in a civil service. No church. No god. No religion. Is the only reason it was called a marriage, because I am a straight female and he was (probably still is) a straight male?

Btw, I voted for equal rights for all.

61. Regardless of the argument made for the contrary in other threads,
Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 08:27 AM by Bassic
I think it's clear to anyone with half a brain that homosexuals are being denied the right to marry. To argue that they do have the right to marry, just not to marry eachother is simply another way to perpetuate that discrimination.

The law may not say anyhthing about love, but the fact is that this is what marriage is all about, and this is why people marry. That Marriage allows them access to a whole friggin bunch of advantages. Those advantages are denied homosexuals, because they can not marry. Legally they can marry a person of the opposite sex, but we all know that's not going to happen and that using this as the basis of a legal argument is not only idiotic, it is downright biggoted.
