What blatant sexism on the part of insurance companies…
A friend of mine in the medical field emailed me,

Health ins covers Viagra, and very few companies cover birth control. That really chaps my butt.

I’ll bet the rationale the ins co’s use is that Viagra treats a medical condition, whereas BC pills are preventative. Which is crap, and sexism in its purest form.

Looks like the insurance companies think it’s ok for men to have sex, but not women.
How's that again?

Plus looks like paying for BC pills is cheaper paying for than a pregnancy.

I remember when I had group health insurance in the ‘80’s, Blue Cross would pay for BC pills if it were for a medical condition, but not for contraception.

:puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:

1. It's not just sexism (although you can't discount that as a significant factor) . . .

These yahoos believe (or are beholden to those who believe) that contraception is equivalent to abortion and should be outlawed, or at least made as difficult as possible to obtain.

Of course, the drug companies make mass quantities on the sale of BC medications, so there's a bit of dissent in the medical ghoul community.

Yes, until you consider that the insurance companies are looking at future customers. Increase the population and you increase the potential pool of candidates.

Always bugged me that they do that, too. It's been several years, but, IIRC my insurance company would pay for a vasectomy but not BC. Tubal ligations were covered if performed immediately following giving birth (IOW, when baby is 30 seconds old), otherwise it was partially covered but not at the same amount as a vasectomy.

3. I remember when getting a yearly exam
at the GYN wasn't covered unless you had a condition. My gyn diagnosed me with "heavy periods" so insurance would cover my exams!

4. This has been going on for a while. Sexist and unfair.
Hell, in Canada, you have to pay the GST on feminine hygiene products, but not on donated sperm.
