An example of a rightwinger's brainwashing
--

This is an exchange I had with a guy I know.

---

Here is what I sent him in response to him "supporting the war":

ME:

Our relationship with Pakistan is all the proof anyone needs to know the "War on Terror" is a fucking joke.

Bush’s Pakistan Paradox
Posted on Jul 10, 2007

By Robert Scheer

snippets:

"...The marker of what will go down in history as “Bush’s folly” is that this idiot of a president invaded a country that had absolutely nothing to do with terrorist attacks on the United States or WMD threats to America while coddling the military junta in Pakistan, which was guilty on both counts...."

"Recall that Bush boasted in his 2004 presidential debate with Democratic candidate John Kerry that “we busted the A.Q. Khan network,” when, in fact, neither Khan nor any of the top ringleaders of his nukes-for-sale operation have ever been brought to trial. Some had to hold high positions in the Pakistani government in order for the shipment of Pakistan’s most highly valued nuclear technology to go unimpeded. Perhaps it is for that reason U.S. agents have never been allowed to interview Khan, let alone subject him to the waterboarding torture reserved for those who wouldn’t know a nuke if it hit them upside the head."

HIM:

Well I still support the Iraq war. Sadam was a nut job that needed to be stopped. If we would have done it right. Go in and wipe the country out, we would have sent a clear message to all terrorists that we mean business. Now that we fought a political war, we showed our true weakness. POLITICIANS. Pakistan was too big to fight. Why did most of the politicians vote to go into Iraq? Were they all lied too. I don't think so.

----

I know this person and he limits himself to FAUX, RW radio, and RW websites.
I probably won't repsond due to the fact that he obviously is so ill informed that I would not know how to get through.

Isn't this incredible?

:wow:

1. I'd respond
with one question.

When is he enlisting?

If he is too old, when are his kids of military age enlisting.

Attach to it the DD-4, aka US Military Enlistment form.

3. I'd respond
So how is all that support for the war working out for you these days? In light of the new Intelligence reports on the growing strength of Al-Qaeda do you really feel safer?

6. Remind him of the old story of
the mother who took her son the first day of school to his 3rd grade classroom and told the teacher.....

"Now if Billy misbehaves, all you have to do is slap the kid next to him,and he'll straighten up".

7. Since he thinks like a child, give him this analogy:
Pakistan (or Saudia Arabia, etc.) is like the schoolyard bully taunting him.

Instead of hitting them back, he chooses to beat up the class nerd (Iraq), thinking it'll send a message to the bully while the bully continues hurting people.

8. Duh?!?
"Well I still support the Iraq war. If we would have done it right - go in and wipe the country out - we would have sent a clear message to all terrorists."

Wipe the country out? Didn't he know that his president went into Iraq to liberate it, not wipe it out?

9. Well Let's see where do I start?
"Well I still support the Iraq war." OK, if you support it either go fight it or pay for it

"Sadam was a nut job that needed to be stopped." That would be the nut job that we put in power? Talk about paying the price for bad decisions!

"If we would have done it right." Could you kindly point to any military occupation in documented history that has provided a positive outcome for any of the parties involved?

"Go in and wipe the country out, we would have sent a clear message to all terrorists that we mean business." Oh that's rich! That sounds like the shoot first ask questions later philosophy. It shows the utter disrespect for the rights of anyone else on the planet and the small-minded paranoid fear that defines the conservative world view. I won't even get into the blowback scenario, that would take more than a few sentences to do it justice. Let's just say, when you look at the world around you as potential enemies, they more than likely will end up being so.

"Now that we fought a political war, we showed our true weakness. POLITICIANS." On this point, we agree. The big problem is that politics has been left to the "professionals" for too long. Half of the people don't vote and half of those that do are poorly informed. Of those who do vote, probably half cast their vote based on an emotional response to the candidates. PR got it's foothold in this country to get us into WW1. Here's a quote to think about, I can't give any attribution, but any thinking person will understand the import. "war is just politics waged by other means" If you look at who has the most influence in our political process, it shouldn't be hard to understand why we're in a war that profits few and is payed for by many.

"Pakistan was too big to fight." ARE YOU FREAKIN SERIOUS? We are the so-called lone SUPERPOWER IN THE WORLD. We spend more on our military than the rest of the world combined and we can't take on a country the size of Pennsylvania? As a taxpayer, I'd be seriously pissed if that $500 M a year we pour into our military couldn't take on a third rate dictatorship with 1/10 th the resources we have. Oh wait! That's not much different that Iraq! We had bombed them into oblivion and kept them living in squalor for more than 12 years and spent more that four years occupying their country with no positive outcome? Pardon my French, but what the fuck have we done that has worked?

"Why did most of the politicians vote to go into Iraq? Were they all lied too. I don't think so." Of course they were lied to! We were all lied to. I'm just some dumb slug from a working class family who had no interest in politics, but March 19, 2003 was my clarion call. I vowed then that I would devote all my time and energy to correcting the situation we're in. It's been a few more years than I would like, but I'm still here doing what I can.
