My thoughts on Bush's "war on terror"
I believe that there will be another major terrorist attack within the next year. If you look at Al Qaeda's track record, they tend to space their major attacks several years apart. Note, I'm talking about the real Al Qaeda, not the Three Stooges version that * wants us to believe is lurking behind every corner.

Do I believe that Bush knew that Al Qaeda was going to attack on 9/11? Who knows. Honestly, I don't really subscribe to the theories that we did it ourselves. It's naive to believe that there aren't terrorists out there who really are intent on attacking us. However, I don't believe it's because "they hate our freedom." That is such bullshit. It has everything to do with our policies and presence in the Middle East. What I do believe is that this administration is totally and utterly incompetent in just about every way possible. There were all sorts of clues prior to 9-11 that there was a major attack in the works, including the method and the targets. I will put nothing past this corrupt administration, but I think it's much more likely that they just completely dropped the ball than that they knew about it and allowed it to happen. Of course, once it did happen, it gave Bush all the excuse he needed to launch the war against Iraq that he had planned well before even taking office. Well, I shouldn't say it gave him the excuse, since obviously Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11. But that's where Cheney comes in, with his deliberate lies to connect Al Qaeda with Iraq. The whole "war on terror" was nothing more than an excuse for Bush to invade Iraq, and to implement his unconstitutional policies. If this were a true "global war on terror", we would have been taking action against real terrorist training camps around the world. Instead, Bush chose to invade a country that had nothing to do with terrorism whatsoever.

So where does that bring me? Does anyone think that this administration has suddenly become more competent? Hell, just look at everything that's been going on over the past few years. This fucking joke of an administration couldn't even handle an emergency response to a major hurricane! Bush has bungled more federal agencies than even seems possible.

Over the past few years, we've been fed a bunch of bullshit about so-called "terror plots" that have been disrupted. IMHO, these reports have been nothing more than futile attempts to justify Bush's assault on our civil liberties, and to try and make us feel like Bush is keeping us "safe" from terrorism. Hell, one of our local right-wing radio talk show hosts is constantly reminding his listeners how many days we've gone without a major terrorist attack. Well duh. How many days went by between the first WTC bombing in '93 and 9-11? Yet I doubt very much that this same RW asshole would give Bill Clinton any credit for that.

When the next terrorist attack takes place, the administrations' house of cards is going to collapse. It should be evident for everyone to see that, despite all these "tough measures" - despite the illegal wiretapping, the "fight them over there", and everything else - that Al Qaeda still managed to strike us. We've been in Afghanistan for almost six years, and we STILL haven't done anything about Bin Laden. If anything, recent reports show that Al Qaeda is just as strong now as it was prior to 9/11! I'm sure that they are laughing their asses off over all these claims that Bush is keeping the US safe from attack. The only reason Al Qaeda hasn't launched another attack is because they haven't wanted to yet, not because of Bush or his policies.

Does anyone seriously think that an administration as completely inept as this one can prevent another major terrorist attack?
