81. With Lyndon?
I believe it is our responsibility and calling as a humanity in our ongoing efforts to evolve, to practice forgiveness. That stated, to completely ignore the fact that Lady Bird spent (by choice) her married life with a man who's crimes against this country and his fellow man were so egregious as to saddle us with consequences that we are still living with today, to me, is beyond comprehension. LBJ helped orchestrate the murder of his boss in 1963, in addition to his many other well documented crimes, and if you believe that that could have happened without her knowledge, then perhaps you would consider re-examining that period of American History, as well as the relationship and union between a man and a women in an institution called marriage!

43. Many, Many Programs With Real Citizen Participation, for the Good of All
She was a wonderful, true New Deal Democrat, as strong on education and programs to end poverty--real ones, that gave money and job training to the people, much as block grants do--as Pres. Johnson was. She also worked very hard the whole time, on the Keep America Beautiful campaign while First Lady, the revival of the tree-planting and appreciation of nature of Arbor Day, her calls for flower etc., plantings, and a huge anti-litter campaign that was very popular; I remember it all, a real civic era. A real environmentalist of the Rachel Carson type, and a true Democrat; she was wonderful, and classy.

Over these past years I've been seeing more trash on our streets and highways and I've thought back to Ladybird Johnson and how she made a difference for my generation in getting Americans more conscious about keeping our land litter free. I'm grateful to her for that message.

and getting rid of BILL BOARDS on NATIONAL HIGHWAYS!

Loved her book about her problems with her daughters in the White House (they were party girls) and it was a great read...she was VERY REAL...And we owe the wildflowers on our National Highways to Lady Bird for her "Highway Beautification Program." RIP Ms. Johnson...you were a true "Lady with a Heart."
