Face For Radio?

CBS has been on the hunt for a radio broadcaster ever since Don Imus was sacked over racist remarks in April. Now insiders are whispering that ex-N.Y. Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason will permanently replace Imus in the morning-show slot on CBS-owned WFAN. Boomer, who went into broadcasting after retiring from his football career in 1997, was the first tryout after Imus was fired. Reps for the station and Esiason did not return calls.

1. Ahhh...Another Locker Room Show
Boomer and "the boys" yuk it up about jock itch and male pattern baldness. It's riveting radio...absolutely riveting. :sarcasm:

Note that this article cites only WFAN...a station Boomer has worked on for years...but no mention of the others that carried the Imus zoo...such as WTKK in Boston (not quite Boomer territory).

After his retirement, Boomer Esiason went into broadcasting. He was a color commentator for ABC's Monday Night Football from 1998 to 2000. Following his dismissal by ABC (due primarily to personal conflicts between him and play-by-play announcer Al Michaels), Esiason was hired by the Westwood One radio network to become the analyst for radio broadcasts of Monday Night Football games. Esiason also currently serves as an in-studio analyst for The NFL Today on the CBS television network and hosts The Boomer Esiason Show on the Madison Square Garden Network. Every Friday during the season, he calls in to the very popular Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Maryland morning talk radio show Elliot in the Morning to discuss the previous week's action and preview the upcoming week.

In April 2007 after the firing of Don Imus, CBS Radio gave Boomer the first "try-out" as Imus's replacement. For one week, he would host the morning slot Imus had filled.

3. Anyone Who Pisses Off Michaels Is OK With Me...
Here the asshat that welcomed Rushbo and Dennis Miller into the booth. I've heard Boomer and he's not bad...and he should do well in New York. WFAN is critical to CBS...it's a big money maker and Imus' daypart is a major chunk of that change. It'll be interesting to see the ultimate financial results of the Imus fiasco on the corporate bottom line later this year.

Cheers...

:hi:
