Very simple way to solve many problems all at once and get to the bottom of Treasongate

1) Outing a covert CIA agent is an act of Treason.
2) This falls under The Patriot Act
3) There has to be SOMEONE involved in all this falls who outside the umbrella of protection afforded by The Executive Branch. Someone not protected by privilege, and who does not need to be impeached before they can be indicted.
4) Indict that person under The Patriot Act.
5) "Aggressively Interrogate" that person, using precisely the techniques that Bush and Gonzales all claim "are not torture."
6) Televise the interrogations.

Let America see exactly what our government is doing in our name.

I still have enough faith in this country to believe that we will not stand for it, once we have seen it with our own eyes.

That will be the end of the torture.

And that will be the end of the Bush regime.

1. I don't understand how ANY of the FORMER employees fall "under the
protection of the Executive branch."

Sara Taylor's lawyer merely says that she doesn't wish to oppose Bush -- not that he has any legal hold over her.

2. nice idea, except
the president gets to decide who gets arrested, who gets interrogated. Can't implement your plan until he is dealt with.

3. I disagree with the use of the Patriot Act...
I don't want any justification for any of its laws.

8. Re: Rules for Treason Charges, Prosecutions?
As you have stated, we have Constitutional treason, and a series of statutes
targeting treason, espionage, subversion, sedition/terrorism. The good case
for constitutional treason is Tomoya Kawakita v. United States, 343 U.S. 717
(1952). You will find it a thought-provoking case. There are still
unresolved questions regarding the terms "adhering," "aid and comfort," and
"enemies." Enemies is traditionally thought of as a foreign power "in a
state of open hostility," but arguments remain.

9. that's a link to somebody's opinion
which says "questions remain".

The fact is, treason is the only crime defined in the constitution. It's very precise.

Outing a CIA agent is wrong. It might violate many laws. But it is not de facto treason just because it hurts America.
