Wiccan Warriors discussion of the Bill of Rights..............
ok I would like to post one amendment to the Constitution in here a day and get everyones opinion on it, how they feel about it, how it has been upheld or stripped from us, just in general talk about it and if you ever had a time to use/exercise it.

THE BILL OF RIGHTS
Amendments 1-10 of the Constitution

The Conventions of a number of the States having, at the time of adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added, and as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government will best insure the beneficent ends of its institution;

Resolved, by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled, two-thirds of both Houses concurring, that the following articles be proposed to the Legislatures of the several States, as amendments to the Constitution of the United States; all or any of which articles, when ratified by three-fourths of the said Legislatures, to be valid to all intents and purposes as part of the said Constitution, namely:

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

1. The foundation the rest of the Bill of Rights are built on
Without the 1st Amendment, you can't have the other 9. This one is the foundation in my opinion. The 1st amendment really addresses why we have country in the first place. Had England allowed religious freedom, people wouldn't have had to come here seeking it. Had the British government allowed free speech, free press, and allowed the colonists to address Parliament and the King with their complaints, we wouldn't have had a revolution. But through the years this amendment has been chipped away. Historically these rights have been restricted on many occasions. However, I do feel like this administration has done more to harm this ammendment than any in recent history. This administration caters to the people who believe that the freedom of religion truly only extends to those of the Judeo-Christian faiths. Freedom of speech is limited to those who are "with us." With their if you're not with us you are our enemy ideology, this administration has used this ammendment as a profiling tool to identify their enemies.

I teach history and government, and I always show my students a film each year when we are studying the Bill of Rights. You can find it on United Streaming (membership is free). It's called Future Shock. It is about what would happen if the Bill of Rights is abolished. It's a great way to get the students started discussing current events in our government. I would say the majority of Americans have no idea how this President has damaged our rights. I highly recommend watching this short film.
