Had A Gotcha Moment With A Young Drone
I'm at the hardware barn (Lowe's) shopping for doors. As i'm coming out, there's a black pickup right next to my car, a little tight because he wasn't centered in his space. So, i'm already a little irritated.

Because my old piece of junk has a door problem, it's already hard to open the door, so now it's going to really be a problem to get in. On top of that, my legs are hurting and stiff from the MS that day.

So, i'm going around the back of the truck and there's a Bush/Cheney '04 sticker, a yellow ribbon, a support the troops sticker and a "freedom isn't free" sticker. So, i said, out loud "Yeah, what an american. As long as you're happy, to hell with everyone else. What an idiot."

Well, you guessed it. The guy who owns the truck is standing right beside me. So, he starts grousing about "people like you" and the troops and blah, blah, blah. I just said "I knew the pretense were false before we started. We're supposed to be the good guys, remember?"

Then i said, "Unlike you, i am not fearful of the terrorists. If they want to come here to fight, i'll fight 'em." Then i laid the parting shot.

"You look like you're only in your late 20's. Why aren't you over there is you support the troops so much?" He looked like someone shot his dog. So, i repeated "Idiot". Got in my car and left.

Kind of fun! Knocked the pins out from under him and the wind out of his lungs.

2. Right on, Professor!
I'm always amazed by people who have the presence of mind to say just the thing to shut these morans down. Maybe if I hang out here long enough some of that succinct articulation (am I allowed to use that word?) will rub off on me.

5. Link to enlistment form: Print LOTS of copies along with addressed envelopes
http://www.hqda.army.mil/ocll/DOC/Presentation_Slides/Enlistment%20Re%20enlistment%20Forms.pdf

Keep some copies of this form in car with addressed envelopes and stamps so you can offer them up to the Yellow ribbon patriots when they get pushy! Be sure and have them sign on the line and BE REAL SURE to offer to mail it in yourself. ;)

Bet if we all did that, those silly magnets would come off cars and trucks all over the place!

And in the meantime, a yellow ribbon that speaks truth:

(you can go to the site, design your own and even pay them to make it for you!)

25. I actually did that! Well sort of...
My kids picked up an army brochure at our county fair this summer and it was in my car (along with all the other garbage they collected at the fair-you can tell how often I clean out my car). I had to take my youngest daughter to the Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor, and when I pulled up there was a car plastered with repuke bumper stickers, so I pulled out the brochure and wrote "be the first of your republican friends to enlist!" on it, and stuck it under the windshield.
When I came out the brochure was torn up in pieces and laying in the parking lot.
Not just a chickenhawk...a LITTERING chickenhawk.

10. I know someone who is placing flyers under windshield wipers of cars
that still display the "Bush/Cheney '04", "W", etc., stickers.

The flyer basically says,

You apparently support George Bush and Dick Cheney.

How many members of your family have been over in Iraq fighting in their war, which was based on lies?

How many people do you know impacted by health issues who struggle with medical costs, prescription meds, etc.? Because all our money is going to Iraq, American taxpayers have to struggle or do without. The Bush Administration is not working in our best interests, they are working against us. Don't believe it? Check out the gas prices during Summer 2006, and then check the oil company profits for the same year. Does that seem fair to you? (Bush and Cheney were both oil men before going into politics, and both still have many friends in that industry.)

Seeing any red flags yet?

You should be ashamed of yourself for supporting these men: both cowards, who evaded serving their country when it was their turn. Yet they have no problem sending other people over there to die for their lies.

Remove the stickers, it's not a symbol of pride, it's a statement of what an idiot you are. People behind you who see them are not impressed with your public display of your ignorance. You should be embarrassed to still have them on your car.

BE AN AMERICAN - REMOVE THE BUSH STICKERS!

They've printed off thousands of them, and I think it's a great idea!

I'm glad to hear you confronted the stupid kid with the facts. Facts are hard to argue with, but the Kool-Aid drinkers sometimes try to argue anyway. It's the Rush Limpballs Syndrome, and there's no sure fire cure for it yet, but we're getting closer.

12. I love it! The little freepers are big and brave with their bumper stickers, but
when confronted live, in person, they're all yellow-bellied cowards.

I use to leave Military enlistment forms on windshields of people who had W bumper stickers. I should start doing that again. It was FUN.:)

Good job on confronting the idiot. I honestly don't understand how anyone can still have a W bumper sticker on their car and NOT be embarrassed! sheesh. Talk about clueless!

14. Really want to frost them?
Go to the local Marine and Army recruiting stations. Ask them for as much literature as they can give you. Load your vehicle with the literature. When you inevitably run into a "patriotic" 20-something at the local big box, pull out a flier and the card of the local recruiter and tell them to call immediately. (If you see the W sticker and they aren't around, leave the literature underneath the windshield wiper).

If you have the time, ask for their name and telephone number and assure them, loudly, that you'll personally put them in touch with the recruiters.

I've pulled it on some folks my age when they start in on that pseudo patriotic BS...

YOY: "Why aren't you there if it's such a goddamn noble cause?"

Dipshit: "Because I'm valuable part of my company here? I build the economy!"

YOY: "Oh, you've got a job to do here? Don't worry, it will be waiting for you when you get back! Besides, if you do happen to die for 'freedom', I assure you: you are replaceable."

22. Yeah. About 8,000 Miles Behind Them
It's not just that they're afraid of going to war. It's rooted in a deeper cowardice that because of 9/11 has them hiding under their own bed and wanting the "can't do anything right" gov't to protect them.

It's fundamental cowardice.

29. Thank you for the 'incident report'. I really like this part:
"Unlike you, i am not fearful of the terrorists. If they want to come here to fight, i'll fight 'em."

Bravo. I feel that too. Really a challenge to that hard wired frozen mindset... You know what I mean, the repuke pledge of allegiance. Goes something like this:

"I'll let my government do ANYTHING they want, to ANYONE they want (yes, even ME!), just so long as they promise to keep the bad men away from us. Amen."

31. This might make you feel better.
Prof:

I’ve already written this once already, but I got tied up with a phone call and when I came back to finish the post and send it, DU said it had lost my cookies. (Well, better them than me.)

So, for you, I’m procrastinating my garden work to write it again.

Yesterday I found myself at a supply depot waiting behind two men who were placing a rather large and complicated order. They were two young white males. No sign of their political affiliation, but their likeability factor dropped when one of them kept snorting up his flem and spitting it on the ground where he stood. We were at an outdoor depot, so I not only had to put up with his poor upbringing, but we were all freezing our butts off.

After a few minutes, we were joined by an elderly black couple who had just walked up from the parking lot. They obviously just wanted a question or two answered, but they waited for about ten minutes before interrupting.

When they did interrupt, they addressed one of the two whites guys, and in Spanish, they asked if he knew how to speak Spanish. He said he didn’t. In broken English they asked their question. I understood at once what they wanted and in what aisle they could find it. I waited a few minutes as the white guy tried to respond, even though it was obvious he didn’t know the answer. He looked uncomfortable, and I admit I was amused by it, but I give him credit for being polite throughout the ordeal. Finally I stepped in and told the old woman, who was obviously the spokesperson of the pair, and told her in Spanish where she could find what she was looking for, and who back there could speak Spanish so she could get help carrying the product back to her car.

As she walked the corner, one of the white guys said, “You should get a discount for that assistance,” I replied, “God will reward me in the future, at some point.”

Well, the elderly black woman must have heard me, because I went to go relay some more information and the first thing she told me was, “I’m from Cuba and my religion is Santeria.” It’s a religion that has multiple gods, not sure, but I do know that the hardcore Santeristas sacrifice animals. Still, the conversation was pleasant. Once she knew where I was born, we were suddenly as close as old neighbors.

Now, I’ll never know why she took a chance on asking the white guy who had never shown any signs of being hispanic, instead of me, who looks more the role. For all I know, she may have thought I was Middle Eastern, because I do have the look of the Moor. But I thought that was the most likely explanation, because, as I drove out of the parking lot and saw the two elders get into their car, I noticed a “W” sticker on their bumper! What a world we live in. A Cuban Santerista who voted for Bush, probably because her hatred of Fidel Castro is stronger than her fear of retaliation from Christian Evangelical nutcases.

Anyway, it’s one of those things that make you go hmm....

Sorry about your MS pain. I hope you’re feeling better today.
