I will never be the same after attending Live Earth!
Edited on Sun Jul-08-07 10:23 AM by RestoreGore
I am still recovering from attending Live Earth because it was a transformational experience unparalelled. It was truly an undertaking that was handled with a real concern for our planet. AL GORE, YOU ARE TRULY A GREAT MAN!! When he first stepped out on that stage after being introduced by Leonardo De Caprio, I was the first in my section to jump to my feet and yell "I love you Al!", and I am still hoarse this morning because I have never had such a good and EDUCATIONAL time at a concert event as I had yesterday.

And what is even more WONDERFUL is that my son, 16 years old left that concert which was the first he ever attended with a smile on his face telling me that he will pledge to live his life as best he can to love Mother Earth after signing the Live Earth seven point pledge... and you know that made me cry because if all the other young people who were at this concert feel the same and spread that feeling around, WE WILL DO THIS.

Oh, and what was genuinely hilarious was the plane (polluting the air of course) that flew over the stadium with a banner behind it that read: " Don't Believe Al Gore" DemandDebate.com. I made sure when it went by the next time after first seeing it to hold my hand up real high to it in a one finger salute. That proves that he and we are getting to them from outside the system, and THEY ARE SCARED because we are the new revolution!

I can't even begin to describe the atmosphere at this concert. It was ELECTRIC. Giants Stadium for one day was turned into the epicenter of so much positive energy for our planet that I do not believe it will diminish for a very long time.

And the performances? I'm still hoarse from shouting and singing along! Keith Urban and Alicia Keyes singing "Gimme Shelter" was AWESOME. Melissa Etheridge? What can you say? MAGNIFICENT. Are you awake? Yes, Melissa, I am! Bon Jovi...Hey, I'm from New Jersey, and he is the holder of its heart! LIVING ON A PRAYER is what we are doing now, and he rocked that house down to its core with "our national anthem" (Bon Jovi fans know what that means) "Wanted Dead or Alive." EVERY act even including Ludacris (and no, I'm not really a fan of rap) had me moving and seemed to exude such a raw energy and sincerity, and I KNOW it was because of the cause they were singing for... our planet. And not one of them got paid for it. I also freaked over Roger Waters and "Dark Side of the Moon" and "Brick In The Wall" when a giant inflatable pig came out with SOS all over it. Yeah, that means YOU EXXON!

I could go on for a very long time, but suffice it to say this is without a doubt THE GREATEST event I have ever been to in my entire life, because I not only took away those great performances (including of COURSE, The Police who ended with "Message in a Bottle/Sending Out An SOS To The World") and a hoarse voice, ringing ears, and sunburn ;-) I took away even more than I went in with regarding my purpose in life, and most importantly, my son has been transformed! They also showed SOLUTIONS all day long and the names of those pledging to make a difference as well as performances from other venues.

And one of the highlights for me was when RFK Jr. came out to speak and he spoke just like his father, which caused me to cry. I am so grateful to him as well for all of the work he does EVERY DAY to fight ernvironmental injustice in this country and in this world. And James Hansen from NASA even showed up with his grandchildren to speak TRUTH. WONDERFUL.

Mr. Gore, Mr. Wall, and ALL who handled this event even down to the security at Giants Stadium which was PHENOMENAL in handling all of the people without incident, THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!

Who says you have to be "president" to make HISTORY in this world? And just imnagine, this happened simultaneously ALL OVER THE WORLD. You can't get any better than that.

WE WILL DO THIS AND THEY WILL SIMPLY HAVE TO FOLLOW US!

5. You made the most important point here
And what is even more WONDERFUL is that my son, 16 years old left that concert which was the first he ever attended with a smile on his face telling me that he will pledge to live his life as best he can to love Mother Earth after signing the Live Earth seven point pledge... and you know that made me cry because if all the other young people who were at this concert feel the same and spread that feeling around, WE WILL DO THIS.
---------

As I posted in a thread yesterday, the most important aspect of Live Earth was the significant number of young people attending. If 10% of them do like your son, there is hope.

8. Absolutely
All of us must ask ourselves, what are we going to do differently tomorrow as a result of experiencing this? If we can answer that and then do it, it served its greatest purpose. And yes, I do have hope... but it has to begin with us and speaking to our children!

7. Great!
We need to keep the momentum building from this event. Those of us stuck on computers yesterday were moved to tears and I do believe action as well.

I recommend we continue to spread the word as there are many people I know who knew nothing about this until last night. I propose we send emails to family, friends - anyone in your community that needs to know about this - and work out plans of action to take community wide.

9. This looks to have the meaning of Woodstock for this generation!
Edited on Sun Jul-08-07 10:47 AM by calipendence
We had all of those "commercial" Woodstock followups that had hollow attempts to recreate the original, but it looks like finally have a new event that people will remember through the years to come as something that was pivotal for this generation to do something about the world around them the way that Woodstock was back in the late 60's.

Folks, keep in mind it WAS people's activism with the huge protests then along with the Pentagon papers and subsequent impeachment investigations, that DID keep Nixon from launching a NUCLEAR attack on North Vietnam then. It is in the records now! WE helped stop Vietnam from becoming a worse disaster than it was through our activism that was in no small part inspired by that concert then! What we do after this concert event may be no less important!

Kids of today! Be proud of what happened yesterday and your participation in it! Let this be a rallying cry that YOU as a group of people interested in YOUR future and subsequent generations CAN be a power to be reckoned with! You just need to channel your energies into something positive and I believe it will happen now! Other generations past and future will respect and thank you for it!

just reading your excitingly charged review! I know from experience that being somewhere like that is greater than seeing it on the computer or tv.

I'm so happy your 16 year old son got that movitvated to Answer the Call!

Incredibly stupid that a plane was flying by with an anti-Gore message spewing out pollution over the concert.

They are so jealous of Gore now they're all turning GREEN.

I didn't get to a concert - but I helped host a LiveEarth event - we haad 68 people register and over 100 showed up. The best part was that most of them had never taken any action in regards to the climate crisis -- not the same old crowd, NEWBIES.

22. Current TV taking environmental ads
As Al Gore announced on Llarry King and also as announced at Live Earth yesterday, Current TV in partnership with The Alliance for Climate Protection is having a contest asking for 60 second environmental spots regarding saving this planet due to the climate crisis. The Alliance currently has a very good spot coming out regarding Co2 emissions in homes with black balloons representing ths tons that escape from our homes daily, with Tommy Lee Jones as the narrator. So anyone who wants to do this and has a camera and an imagination, this is your time to use it.

as I felt the energy come through my television last night.

Regarding Floyd's pig=Exxon,
Chevron is right up there in the pig trough.

Remember Sting's wife, Trudy, relating her experiences
in Ecuador where Chevron had dumped toxic waste near
villages where the people are now coming down with severe
respiratory illnesses and cancer?

Screw that Sh*t!
I'm boycotting Chevron until they stop polluting areas
where indigenous people live, or anywhere for that matter!

Even though it's damn convenient to use their credit card
when I need gas- this is way more important.

Not one more cent from me until they stop this.

31. I am so happy for you and agree with everything you said except this.
Bruce Springsteen holds the heart of New Jersey and he always will. Maybe Sinatra still does too in some areas but not Jon Bon. Sure he's definitely a favored son but I once saw both Springsteen and Bon jovi at the Stone Pony and Jon Bon was more like a backup singer- he wasn't even noticed at first. Come to think of it, I'm really surprised that Bruce wasn't there. Normally he comes out for anything like this. Hmmm? It would have been great.

I watched the whole concert and it was even exciting and inspiring you from home. I almost volunteered to help out at the Meadowlands but I didn't have anyone to go with. It never occurred to me to network with DUers. Duh. Al did more in one day to help the world than any of Bushco has done in 6 years. The production values, the care that went into this, all of the movies were unbelievably impressive and very informative. I don't see how anyone could ever be as clueless and neglectful as they were before yesterday. You can't help but wake up. The revolution takes place in all of lives, one at a time, he has reached minds. This is our planet and the handful of people that insist on the right to polute will be stopped. This is only the beginning.

38. I got to shake Al Gore's hand at the concert
Edited on Sun Jul-08-07 04:34 PM by LynneSin
I was up in the 200 section for the concert (and I'm glad - we had shade the entire time). About halfway thru Fall Out Boys I noticed everyone crowding around the luxury box behind section 226 (I was in 225). Curiousity obviously got the best of us and we went over to see that it was Al Gore in that box.

Anyhow, he came out about 10 minutes later and shoke hands with everyone gathered around the luxury box - I was one of them.

I thought it was great, my only disappointment - Roger Waters didn't do "Comfortably Numb"

BTW - I wished Roger had sent out the regular pig he uses for concerts. On the ass of the big is written "Impeach Bush"

I'm glad he and his friends also took an interest! ;)

53. That's great, and I hope it lasts
It was a like a generational bonding for us too because as I stated I am really no fan of rap, but my son knew every word to every song Ludacris And Kanye West sang, and I was actually moving along with them with him... he thought that was cool. So when Roger Waters started playing I watched him and saw him getting into it, so on that level it was great!

54. RestoreGore, I'm so happy that you and your son could be there!
We were watching at home. Last night before we went to bed, I went around and unplugged all the non-essentials (cell phone chargers, etcetera). I turned off our computers. I turned off a light that typically burns in our family room.

We'll keep going. Next -- CFI lightbulbs! Every little change makes a difference.

:woohoo:

56. Thanx for sharing!
I saw some of the European TV coverage (BBC and Dutch TV) and was a bit disappointed - especially with the cynical tone of some of the British TV presenters. I already complained to the BBC that they did not give enough attention to the pledge, and asking viewers to "Answer The Call" by going to www.liveearth.org and signing the pledge.

The only part of the NJ concert I saw so far was KT Tunstall - but I have the rest on TiVO! :)

BTW - Kevin Bacon - KT Tunstall is from SCOTLAND (not England) !!! :P

My impression is that the Sydney and New Jersey concerts were more about the message than London. The London concert (at least - watching it on TV) was a disappointment to me. During evening primetime there were a lot of American heavy metal bands that I think only appeal to a minority of viewers (like Metallica, Spinal Tap, Beastie Boys and Foo Fighters). And whose idea was it to invite the The Pussycat Dolls? :eyes:

As much as I love Madonna (saw her concert in 2001) - her new song "Hey You" was kinda lame.

There were some very inappropriate songs chosen by some of the artists:

"Que Sera Sera" - Damien Rice & David Gray (London)
"Shut Up and Drive" - Rihanna (Tokyo)
"Turn It On Again" - Genesis (London)

But I look forward to watching some of the show from GIANTS stadium!

Let's all find ways to show our support for Live Earth! B-)

Sign the Live Earth Pledge: www.liveearthpledge.org

Then ask all your friends and family to sign it too! :-)

59. I haven't watched London in full yet
The only act at Giants Stadium I did not like too much was Smashing Pumpkins. I literally had to put my fingers in my ears when they played... Waaaaaay too loud and screachy for me.

60. London
The best part of the London concert was probably the Black Eyed Peas "Where Is The Love?"

Corinne Bailey Rae and John Legend sang Marvin Gaye's pro-environment anthem "Mercy Mercy Me".

Genesis and Duran Duran played some of their best-known songs. "Land of Confusion" was OK.

From the younger British bands I quite like Razorlight, Snow Patrol, and Keane (but not Kasabian).

The whole prime-time part was very hard-rock oriented, right up until Madonna came on at the end.

You have to see Madonna's specially written song "Hey You". I am not too crazy about it.

The lyrics go "then you can change someone else" - but not about changing your own behavior!

During Metallica - the BBC cut away to show pre-recorded footage of Crowded House in Sydney.

They could just see their ratings falling away if they continued showing Metallica live!

wikipedia has detailed information on all the performers and what songs they performed.

PS - in the spirit of Live Earth I suggest that we officially "bury the hatchet"! B-)

61. Hell. I'm motivated and I watched it online
Thanks for the great report.

And I got all emotional after seeing Robert Kennedy, too.
