3. Considering she tried to censor rock music and was a total PMRC bitch,
I continue to have a difficult time figuring out how I should feel about her.

7. I totally agree
Notice how they kept her pretty quiet in the 2000 campaign? Maybe that was part of her penance.

9. She was just a Mother Bear protecting her cubs
and other baby bears. I think most women understand - even if they don't agree.

Look at it this way - at least she stands for something. Unlike the current occupant of the WH.

Also, one of the first political wives to discuss her battle with depression and has shown a life long interest in mental health care/programs.

10. I thought she just wanted the music labeled for content.
I admit, though, that back in my decade as a born-again Christian I liked her for that.

15. She did NOT try to CENSOR Rock Music...she wanted Labels for Parents
to guide them.

19. Yeah, that is a common mis-conception
People think she was trying to burn rockers and rappers.

SO not what happened.

39. Labels ARE censorship
UNLIKE movie ratings.

Record labels would have led to lower sales, or perhaps complete lack of sales as stores (like WalMart) make the decision to carry only "safe" label music, thus either forcing the musicians to change their content to fit a necessary label (which is censorship), edit their CDs that go to certain stores (which is censorship), or not have their music sold (which is also censorship).

It was also bullshit in that she targeted only rock music - not country, not opera (talk about sex and violence! Look to those two genres for most of it), not bluegrass, not jazz... only rock and roll.

While I'm sure she's changed, I will never forget her unconstitutional and unethical rampage against art. Thankfully she shut her fucking mouth while she was the VP's wife.

30. Not true. She did not try to Censor music
She advocated ratings on music. Just like the movie ratings. As a parent, I appreciate the ratings.

32. As a parent myself, I try to keep in touch and listen to what my son is downloading to his iPod
As opposed to depending on some arbitrary "rating". Movie ratings are a joke. A movie will earn an "R" rating simply for one utterance of the word "fuck", but can have all the violence in the world in it and still get a PG-13. As a parent, I would hope you would be the arbiter of what your child is listening to/watching rather than rely on someone else's "opinion" (the ratings). I do give my child a bit of leeway, BTW, but I draw the line at "gansta" rap which glorifies the violent street culture and dehumanizes women.

40. Yes, she DID try to censor - she lied, and called it "labeling",
but the effect is the same.

See my post "labels ARE censorship" above for more.

11. I'll give you and a whole lot of others a chance to flame me outta here.
She takes great pictures and she's got a good man, but Tipper Gore isn't the first lady.

I am sick of reading the name "President Gore" unless it's a future reference. So sick that I don't read it anymore -- except for this thread, of course, where I expected to see a recent mug shot of a drunken and air-bag-smacked Laura Bush.

Our current Congress sucks eggs. The very popular junior senator from New York won't apologize for a mistake so clear you can see forever. The presidential campaign (and they'll apparently never be publicly funded) started close to two years before the presidential election! And for all the over-hyped "watch for terrorists!" crap we hear, terror attacks are still a very real threat.

We must never "get over" the installation of GWB. It can't be ignored. It must be kept in the forefront until there is (if we ever get) a safe and effective and fair way for every citizen to be allowed to cast a vote that will be counted.

But "President Gore?" Al Gore isn't the president of the United States. Pity that the man we need right now is shouting into the wind about frightening scientific fact, and a man who takes his science from ancient fairy tales is president.

Electoral reform is not the biggest problem in this country right now. The fraudulent 2000 election caused many (but not all) of our current problems, but all of our problems -- those that have been with us since, say, the buildup of the military-industrial complex, just for starters -- are more important.

Edited on Sat Jul-07-07 10:33 PM by LibraLiz1973
I wont flame you out of here though! Your a good woman and I agree with most things you have declared yourself passionate about.

But the FACT is that Al Gore is the last legally elected President. And he isn't just "shouting into the wind about frightening scientific fact (thank you for saying fact!!)
he is working his ass off for change. Have you read The Assault on Reason? Gore says what so many WILL NOT.

And your right, I WONT get over the installation of Baby Bush. Hence why I call Gore PRESIDENT.

And speaking to a gay woman I have to tell you that Al's love and support of Melissa Etheridge and her WIFE Tammy is very, very touching.
He doesn't just pretend to like her in public and then make a mockery of her lifestyle by his deeds (Cough Cough to Cheney there)
he genuinely is a friend to both women (he was a guest at their wedding) and supports their rights. Tammy and Melissa have been married
for several years so it wasn't some bullshit I'll come to your wedding for press either.

Al is right on with all the issues I care about. I care about Gays and Lesbians having the RIGHT to marry and have the same rights the rest of us do to create a family.
I care about the ecological CRISIS our planet is currently buried in. I care about poverty. I care about this ridiculous war. All things considered, I stand behind President Gore
and I pray and look forward with hope to the day he is in Washington working his ass of for this country in the Oval Office.

Hands down the most important LONG TERM crisis we face right now IS global warming. Fighting for all the changes we want isn't going to mean squat
if we only have a handful of years to enjoy the earth. Yes, there are other things that are more important RIGHT NOW. But ignoring Global Warming
and making light of Al's contributions is silly and short sighted.

changes in the Constitution by a Dictator that it will take DECADES TO OVERTURN! Blame the Clintons...and all those before them and the Weak Congress who refuses to push forward ELECTION REFORM and CHANGE HAVA and clean out the CORRUPT FEDERAL ELECTIONS COMMISSION!

23. And I am tired of my votes in 2000 and 2004 being shat upon. I voted Gore
Edited on Sat Jul-07-07 10:41 PM by The Count
I was in the majority - he is the president elect - even if a coup by SCOTUS prevented his inauguration. At least Gore did put up a fight for my vote. For that, I shall call him POTUS if I so chose. You're tired??????? Bite me!
There is no problem in our society that is not predicated on the basic tenet of the democracy - the right to vote. Without that, you can bray to the moon about "military industrial complex" - because we had candidates intent in dealing with this - but somehow, bush got "re-elected". If you miss that little scheme, you need some very big glasses.
