An idea to get us out of Iraq sooner
As you may know from today's headlines, Sen. Reid is considering introducing bills cutting funding, etc, because he thinks there will be enough Republicans coming over to our side to get them passed. See

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=2907699&mesg_id=2907699

for a more complete discussion.

My idea is to look at those Senators who are running for re-election next year. As soon as Reid has a bill on the table, we can bombard these senators with letters, calls, and emails asking them to back the bill. Tell them we will be watching their vote on the matter-remind them how many Americans want us out of Iraq. Putting this additional pressure on them can't hurt, and may help.

Here's the list (thanks to DUer Xipe Totec who found it for me):

Appointed senators
John Barrasso (R) of Wyoming

Retiring senators-will it do any good to write?
Wayne Allard (R) of Colorado

Possible retiring senators
Joe Biden (D) of Delaware
Thad Cochran (R) of Mississippi
Larry Craig (R) of Idaho
Chuck Hagel (R) of Nebraska
Tim Johnson (D) of South Dakota
John Warner (R) of Virginia

Democratic incumbent races
Max Baucus of Montana
Dick Durbin of Illinois
Tom Harkin of Iowa
John Kerry of Massachusetts
Mary Landrieu of Louisiana
Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey
Carl Levin of Michigan
Mark Pryor of Arkansas--I'm holding Pryor's feet to the fire on this one!!!!!! He's voted with the repukes too often!
Jack Reed of Rhode Island
Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia

Republican incumbent races
Lamar Alexander of Tennessee
Saxby Chambliss of Georgia
Norm Coleman of Minnesota
Susan Collins of Maine
John Cornyn of Texas
Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina
Pete Domenici of New Mexico
Michael Enzi of Wyoming
Lindsey Graham of South Carolina
Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma
Mitch McConnell of Kentucky
Pat Roberts of Kansas
Jeff Sessions of Alabama
Gordon Smith of Oregon
Ted Stevens of Alaska
John Sununu of New Hampshire

1. My feeling about this is to repeal the IWR (to say nothing of the MCI & HAVA)
In response to the cacaphonious "well. . .they voted for the war" BS is "No they did not."

They voted to authorize the pRes to use force against Hussein with the caveat of gaining UN approval. He never did so.

14:41 my butt. Hussein was in compliance and allowed the inspectors back in, didn't have any WMD's and the pRes clearly abused that authorization. Therefore it should be revoked.

On those grounds IWR should be repealled and "game over."

I wrote a thread about it last December. I'll see if I can dig up the link.

*'s not so excellent adventure in illegality, thievery, and sadism has got to cease for everyone's sake.

2. I agree about the IWR, but has a war resolution ever been repealed before?

3. Dunno but other legislative acts have been.
If there ever was more than enough reasons to repeal something, it's hard to imagine though.

It's only our biggest blunder EVER.

Sheesh.

4. At some point somebody with some sense has to stand up and point out
that it isn't working, it will never work, and it was wrong (illegal?) to begin with.
