1. I'm in....! I like the guy on now - Native American principles
of respect and love for earth should guide our behavior as well as scientific knowledge...

:applause:

Scientific knowledge often emphasizes how much we can get away with without harm.
Native American principles emphasize acting in the highest manner.

10. I don't think he will announce today -- I think he needs us all to be thinking
about what WE are going to do about the climate crisis.

He may allow himself to be swept into office if he sees that he has OVERWHELMING support from the people and Congress. We show support through action.

If I keep doing the RIGHT THING, if we all keep doing the RIGHT THING in terms of changing our own behaviors and speaking out then it may add up and Gore may see that he will be able to accomplish everything we want him to in the Presidency.

Al mentions M. Scott Peck in "Assault on Reason" and in interviews. M. Scott Peck says, "Love is not a feeling, it is an action taken on behalf of your own or someone else's spiritual growth."

Action. Action. Action.

14. brilliant points
and I was thinking to myself - THIS is leadership. This is what a person can do for the world. He has united every continent for a day.For all the damage that has been done over the past 6 years, Al Gore has managed to restore some faith in the world's population that what is happening is despite the wishes of the American people, not because we wanted to bring the world on to the edge of destruction. No, that was the desire of a group of powerful and corrupt men who have profited handsomely.

75. Exactly - the US has been w/o leadership
since 1998 when the rethugs hounding of Clinton reached its zenith. We have been floundering ever since. Gore is the only leader out there on the stage right now. Howard Dean is providing much need leadership of the party. John Edwards is finding his way.

Thank you for the grace that brings us hear today.

It is appropriate that we begin with Native Americans.

If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.
We must go quickly, together.

36. Lyrics of "We Shall Be Free"
This ain't comin' from no prophet
Just an ordinary man
When I close my eyes I see
The way this world shall be
When we all walk hand in hand

When the last child cries for a crust of bread
When the last man dies for just words that he said
When there's shelter over the poorest head
We shall be free

When the last thing we notice is the color of skin
And the first thing we look for is the beauty within
When the skies and the oceans are clean again
Then we shall be free

We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, walk proud
'Cause we shall be free
When we're free to love anyone we choose
When this world's big enough for all different views
When we all can worship from our own kind of pew
Then we shall be free
We shall be free

We shall be free
Have a little faith
Hold out
'Cause we shall be free

And when money talks for the very last time
And nobody walks a step behind
When there's only one race and that's mankind
Then we shall be free

We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, walk proud, have a little faith, hold out
We shall be free

We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, have a little faith

We shall be free

I'd belt it out in elementary school. I believed it with all my little 11 year old heart. I still do. :)

And yes, those are the original lyrics. Country used to be good, you know.

Umm, is it bad that I cried when Gore was on and kept saying, "Please, please."? Sigh.

61. Gore is going to get SOOOOO much mileage
out of the line that

"some in Washington tried to keep us out, but instead of the Cavalry it was the American Indian to the rescue"

That is the icing on the cake for this whole thing. That he and Tipper were on stage IN FRIGGING WASHINGTON DC kicking it off with the aid, no less, of the NATIVE AMERICANS is just beyond the wildest imagination two days ago!

The planets are aligning, folks. As he said, we need to go far AND fast, and that means together.

Incidentally, if, in my worst nightmare, he does not become president, then what is the tenure of the Secretary General of the UN? Do you think that just maybe he could make that organization finally live up to the hopes and dreams under which it was founded?

Give him the bully pulpit to address global climate, mideast peace, darfur, aids, malaria...

hmmm...
